Gunnar Nelson's Coach Reveals Good News and Bad News About Darren Till

Justin Golightly - January 30, 2018

Have any of you ever heard of the Bermuda Triangle? It’s that loosely-defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where aircraft and ships seem to disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The UFC currently has its own kind of nefarious location that match-ups seem to vanish over in London. Michael Bisping was all but confirmed that he’d retire at the card, but that is off the table. Stephen Thompson, along with Gunnar Nelson, were in talks to fight Darren Till, but neither of those are going to happen either according to John Kavanagh. I’m sure [Darren] Till will make his own statement, but I believe he’s ill. He has however agreed to face [Gunnar Nelson] later in the year. [We wish him a] speedy recovery. However, for now we need someone for March 17th. So. if you’re a UFC welterweight, get onto [matchmaker] Sean [Shelby] and get paid. Hope to get matched soon. I can tell you UFC have asked almost every welterweight who’s not currently matched or injured and everyone busy that night [at UFC London] for some reason? A chance to main event a good European show and everyone is getting their hair washed. Bizarre.” — Coach John Kavanagh on Twitter.

BREAKING | Coach John Kavanagh announces likely UFC London main event

Tom Taylor - January 24, 2018

For weeks, there’s been mystery surrounding the main event of the UFC’s April 17 stop in London, England. Originally, the idea seemed to be that the retiring Michael Bisping would fight the last fight of his career in the main event. With Bisping now hesitating on fighting again at all, however, it appears the UFC is going a different direction. According to SBG head coach John Kavanagh, Icelandic welterweight Gunnar Nelson has been offered a scrap with surging British contender Darren Till, in a bout that has been targeted as the UFC London headliner. Per Kavanagh’s Tweet, he and Nelson are just waiting on Till and his team to accept the deal.

Darren Till Promises Kamaru Usman Can't Do to Him What He Did to Emil Meek

Justin Golightly - January 17, 2018

It’s 2018 and Darren Till still hasn’t been booked. You can chalk it up to scared opponents, intelligent strategy, or just the UFC’s booking department. Either way, he’s been wanting a fight ever since his dominant performance against veteran Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Pretty much every welterweight in the entire division has been in talks for a fight with the Scouser, but none have materialized. Till’s eyebrows  raised up for Kamaru Usman’s fight last weekend, thinking Usman was going to call him out, but alas it didn’t happen. He once again voiced his frustrations in a recent interview. “I thought if [Kamaru Usman] won, he would definitely say my name. I didn’t even watch the fight, but all I’ve heard is that he has terrible striking and all he did was force his opponent up against the fence. He might be able to do that to Emil Meek, but he wouldn’t be able to do it to me. I’m twice the size of him for f-ck’s sake. I’m twice as strong as him. Usman has been talking so much sh-t and his performance didn’t prove anything to anyone. He’s saying that he was at 30 percent, but once you’re in that cage your excuses go out the window. It doesn’t matter if you’re feeling ill or if you’ve got a broken bone, you’ve gone in there because you’ve decided that you’re in good enough condition to fight. I don’t believe in any of that bullsh-t.”

Darren Till Claims 2018 is the Year He Becomes UFC Champion

Justin Golightly - January 9, 2018

We’ve all been waiting to see who Darren Till will fight next after his impressive performance against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Talks of opponent after opponent came and went and so did 2017, but this new year promises to be the Scouser’s year. According to this latest interview, he’s got some big plans and envisions himself becoming UFC welterweight champion before 2019. It seems like the big first step to that is fight with Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson which was rumored earlier last year. “It’s a great honour to be honest [to be named UFC’s Breakthrough Fighter of the Year]. My name is all over the world now – it’s great recognition and this is extra special since it’s the fans that voted for it. It’s really taken off in the past few months. I was off for the whole of 2016 [with injury], but obviously I came back last year and I had two good wins before I took [Donald] Cerrone out in the first round. People are starting to think I’m the next big thing in MMA and they’re not wrong.”

Kickboxing Legend Gives Props to Darren Till

Justin Golightly - December 27, 2017

Darren Till has still been running hot after his first-round finish over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone back at UFC Gdansk. The only problem is that the surging welterweight can’t capitalize on it because he’s been unable to get a fight. He’s called out nearly the entire division, but not one has signed on the dotted line yet for one reason or another. Moving into 2018, the Scouser is obviously frustrated and took to Twitter to vent. Kickboxing legend John Wayne Parr saw his post and took time out to show some respect to the young UFC fighter. Rankings rankings rankings… blah blah blah… just fucking fight!!!!!!! Perry, usman, wonderboy all the fucking same… 🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍

Ever since his thudding, October knockout of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Darren Till has been eager for another big name opponent. Chris Taylor - December 24, 2017

Darren Till gives thoughts on matchups with RDA, Lawler and Ponzinibbio

Tom Taylor - December 19, 2017

Last Saturday night, in the main event of UFC on Fox 26, former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos asserted himself as one of the top contenders at welterweight by taking out former champion Robbie Lawler. While dos Anjos’ performance dazzled most of the MMA community, however, it didn’t do much for rising contender Darren Till. In fact, Till believes he would have dominated the versions of dos Anjos and Lawler that fought on Saturday night. “He’s good, mate, but, I just don’t see where ‘RDA’ beats me,” TIll said on The MMA Hour (h/t MMAMania). “His striking, he’s got nothing. He is half my size…. Lawler, he’s just fucking taking shots for fun nowadays. I just don’t think those two fights are [difficult] fights for me. If them two were to ever fight me, I think I wold put them straight to sleep in the first round. That’s just me being confident and not cocky. Robbie is an ex-champion and so is Rafael. But, you know, their time has come. They have been around for a long time and it is time for the young ones to step up.”

Darren Till Wants Fight With Wonderboy So That He Can Prove He's the Most Superior Striker in all the UFC

Drake Riggs - December 18, 2017

The unbeaten Brit, Darren Till became an overnight star with his huge first-round victory over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone back in October. Since then, Till has vaulted into the Welterweight top 10 and let it be known that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Till just being the young age of 24 and already as talented as he is, there’s no reason to disagree with him. There’s one man in particular who Till has his eye on though. Right after his win over Cerrone it was Mike Perry who recently lost this past weekend to Santiago Ponzinibbio. Because of that, Till isn’t looking so much to get this fight anymore but would still be welcome to the chance to throw down with “Platinum”. Till instead focuses his attention to the man he was rumored to fight in the UFC London main event, former two-time title challenger, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Darren Till Explains Why He's Pulling for Mike Perry to Win at UFC Winnipeg

Justin Golightly - December 16, 2017

We’re hours away from Mike Perry’s fight with Santiago Ponzinibbio. It’s a classic fight that we’ve seen time and time again. With all of his victories being finishes, the UFC is banking on Perry to go into this fight at UFC Winnipeg and increase his star power. If he wins, not only doesn’t it increase the value of the Platinum product, but opens up more options as he breaks into the welterweight rankings. One of those being a potential showdown with another surging contender, that was hyped back in Poland: Darren Till. “As I said before, I don’t really care about rankings, and if [Mike] Perry wins — even if Santiago [Ponzinibbio] wins — I think they’re both good match-ups for me. If Perry wins, it’s a great showdown for the Liverpool event because I know he’s definitely game to come and fight me in my hometown, and I know he’s going to come in talking some sh-t and I’m going to be talking sh-t. I think it would make for an explosive buildup to a fight and I know that for a fact. It’s going to make for a good fight, so I’m pulling for Perry to win this weekend. If you asked me who’s going to win, I’d probably say Santiago is going to pull the win off, but I would like Perry to win. People might think I’ve gone past him, but I think that fight is up in the air now. I’ll take any fight.”

Darren Till and Kamaru Usman get heated over possible UFC 219 scrap

Tom Taylor - November 15, 2017

Originally, rising UFC welterweight contender Kamaru Usman was expected to battle the dangerous Emil “Valhalla” Meek at UFC 219. Unfortunately, it sounds like visa issues could force Norway’s Meek out of this planned showdown – which means Usman will have to look elsewhere for a dance partner. Just received information that my visa is having some delays and that he UFC might have to re-schedule my next fight :/ #betsafe #ufc219 pic.twitter.com/afta292YiN

Darren Till Wants to Step Up to Fight Kamaru Usman at UFC 219

Justin Golightly - November 14, 2017

Kamaru Usman, along with all the fight fans looking forward to UFC 219, have simply not had the best of luck. There is no main event, Dominick Cruz is off the card and now Usman’s opponent Emil Meek will not be making it to the card due to a Visa issue. After Usman aired his grievances of multiple opponents ‘ducking’ leading up to the now-canceled fight, it’s easy to see how the surging welterweight is frustrated. Luckily, the game Darren Till has stepped up and wants the fight. I guess I wasn’t lying… @emilvalhalla for stepping up. Darren Till and Gunnar Nelson Have a Nice Chat Agreeing to Fight Each Other

Justin Golightly - November 11, 2017

Darren Till’s hype is like a meteor after finishing Cowboy Cerrone at UFC Gdansk, but what good is momentum if the guy can’t get a fight? Mike Perry and Till had their screaming match after the fight, but he’s booked for the time being. Our hearts skipped a beat when Dana White announced Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and Till were going to scrap, but Thompson quickly squashed the news. It was frustrating enough for Darren Till to post that the welterweight division is all running scared, which led none other than Gunnar Nelson to chime in. They’re all running scared, fuck… I would run from me!! https://t.co/XYJnc1V79n

In the midst of all the injuries and bad news yesterday, there was a silver lining in the dark clouds. Dana White revealed that Stephen Thompson was going to fight surging welterweight Darren Till. We all joined hands and rejoiced, until Thompson said it was the first time he even heard of the match-up. The former two-time title challenger opts instead to fight the winner or loser of Rafael dos Anjos and Robbie Lawler‘s upcoming top contender bout, provided his thumb injury is all healed up. Darren Till jumped on Twitter today to tell the world what he thought of the whole thing. pic.twitter.com/aIKwHWdMhK

Darren Till: People want me to kill Colby Covington for disrespecting Brazil

Russell Ess - November 3, 2017

If you weren’t aware of Darren Till’s connection to Brazil, the rising star from Liverpool spent a few years living there and started his professional MMA career in the country and even speaks the native Portuguese language. With the years of living, training, and competing in Brazil, Till still has a strong connection with friends and fans in the country even after moving back to the UK. With fellow UFC welterweight Colby Covington’s controversial promotional speech following his win over Demian Maia in Brazil, Till says he has been messaged by his Brazilian friends and fans to teach the American Top Team fighter a lesson.

Darren Till comments on comparisons to Conor McGregor, eyes lofty UFC record

Tom Taylor - October 31, 2017

British welterweight Darren Till has long stood out as one of MMA’s brightest young stars. In the wake of his recent first-round drubbing of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, however, his stardom is reaching brand new heights. Till’s rapid rise into MMA stardom has led many members of the combat sports world to compare him to UFC lightweight champion and bona fide MMA superstar Conor McGregor. Till himself, however, feels the only comparison that can be made between himself and McGregor is in their shared confidence and work ethic.
