After his career-defining performance against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone back in October, Darren Till has remained on the sidelines. With fans amazed by his easy dispatching of the former lightweight title challenger, Cerrone, Till has been on many’s radars as one of the next big things in the stacked welterweight division. And you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
But now, it appears that the twenty-five-year-old Liverpool striking sensation will be getting back in action sooner rather than later.
Till posted to his Instagram on Tuesday some pictures of himself training with a caption that reads, “Working hard @teamkaobon #FightNewsComingSoon”.
That alone is good news. But…the bigger hint is in who Till tagged into his pictures. That being none other than wonderboymma also known as top welterweight, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
After Till’s impressive victory over Cerrone, it had sounded like it was all but official that Till would be taking on Thompson at what ended up being UFC on Fox 28 in Orlando. This clearly did not end up being the case as Thompson said he never agreed to the fight despite UFC president, Dana White sharing his plans.
Thompson had some thumb issues after his last fight against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217 and hasn’t been linked to any other fights besides the possible Till matchup since.
For Till, the other opponent that was sounding most likely for him was SBG product, Gunnar Nelson who has been wanting the fight as has his coach, John Kavanagh.
If the Brit, Till faces off with either of these two fighters the action inside the octagon will surely be a striker’s delight as all three excel on their feet.
Which fight do you think is most likely next for Till? Is it obviously Wonderboy?
