Scott Coker responds to Cris Cyborg's free agency plans

Tom Taylor - June 13, 2019

Former UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg recently stated that she plans to test her value as a free agent once her current UFC contract expires. That contract will conclude after her featherweight showdown with Felicia Spencer a UFC 240 in Edmonton in July. If Cyborg does indeed become a free agent, it sounds like she can expect a meeting with Bellator boss Scott Coker. “Listen, if you are a free agent, give us a call. This is a Viacom-backed company and we will take care of the fighters that move the needle for us,” Coker explained during a recent media scrum (transcript via MMA Mania). “So, if she is free one day, please give us a call.”

Drake Riggs - May 29, 2019

After recently campaigning for the only fight that makes sense for her in the division… outside of a title fight rematch, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino (20-2) appears to be getting her wish at UFC 240. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has confirmed that the UFC is finalizing the featherweight pairing for a co-main event slot between Cyborg and the undefeated most recent Invicta FC champion, Felicia Spencer (7-0) for UFC 240 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 27.

Cyborg is hoping to meet the Canadian at UFC 240, which is scheduled for July 27 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Cris Cyborg urges Macy Chiasson to move up to featherweight, Chiasson responds

Tom Taylor - May 10, 2019

Macy Chiasson has looked like an absolute savage in the UFC bantamweight division, scoring back-to-back stoppage victories over Gina Mazany and Sarah Moras since dropping down from the featherweight division. That being said, she appeared to endure a pretty rough weigh cut ahead of her recent stoppage win over Moras. She actually missed her mark on her first attempt, and had to use the infamous weigh-in towel to hit the division’s 136-pound limit on her second try.

Shortly after Roxanne Modafferi defeated Antonina Shevchenko at UFC St. Petersburg on Saturday, she made a callout of former UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg — though she quickly added that she was only joking. On Sunday, Cyborg responded to this callout from Roxanne Modafferi — first assuring the flyweight contender wanted no part of the matchup, then congratulating her on her big win.

Manager outlines plans for return of Cris Cyborg: 'She’d love to fight for the UFC'

Tom Taylor - February 19, 2019

The future of former UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is currently somewhat murky. After losing her title to Amanda Nunes in December, the Brazilian legend is hoping to return to the cage at UFC 237 in Curitiba, Brazil, in May. However, she’ll first have to sign a new deal with the UFC, which is not a certainty. Manager Audie Attar updated on the Cris Cyborg situation on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday.

Cris Cyborg doesn't think Amanda Nunes loss will hurt UFC contract negotiations

Cole Shelton - February 12, 2019

Cris Cyborg is one of the greatest female fighters to ever compete in MMA. For well over a decade, she was simply dominant, going 20-0-1 after losing her first professional fight. Then, at UFC 232, Cyborg had her toughest fight to date when Amanda Nunes moved up in weight to challenge her for the UFC featherweight title. Many believe it would be a close fight, but Nunes shocked the world. She knocked Cyborg out in just 51 seconds to become the new UFC featherweight champion.

Miesha Tate gives interesting perspective on Cris Cyborg's loss to Amanda Nunes

Tom Taylor - January 25, 2019

After more than a decade of dominance, UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg’s reign came to a shocking end at UFC 232, when she was knocked out by reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes in just over a minute. In the opinion of former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate, Cyborg’s shocking loss to Amanda Nunes can be attributed to the fact that she didn’t stick to her strategy. That being said, Tate feels Cyborg has never really needed a strategy before, so she can’t exactly be faulted for that mistake.

Opinion | Denying Cris Cyborg an immediate rematch with Amanda Nunes would be a travesty

Jordy McElroy - January 22, 2019

In the wake of a shocking knockout loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232, Cris Cyborg, the perpetual beacon of dominance in women’s MMA, was unwittingly made a martyr for everything that is wrong with super fights in the UFC. Nine proud years of wearing the moniker of the baddest woman on the planet, and Cyborg has been reduced to begging for an immediate rematch. Those pleas have fallen on deaf ears as the UFC prepares to move in another direction, leaving an entire division hanging in limbo. Nunes is currently pondering whether to defend her bantamweight title or move down to flyweight and attempt to collect a third belt.

Amanda Nunes announces she's 'done with 145,' suggests a different matchup for Cris Cyborg

Thomas Taylor - January 16, 2019

In the co-main event of UFC 232 in late December, UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes moved up to the featherweight division, where she authored a shocking knockout victory over long-time champ Cris Cyborg to capture the UFC featherweight title. Mere weeks after becoming a two-division UFC champion, Amanda Nunes has now announced that she is done with the featherweight division. This news is not likely to go over well with Cris Cyborg, who’s been campaigning for a rematch with Nunes ever since she lost the title to her at UFC 232.

Cris Cyborg encourages UFC not to let her go

Tom Taylor - January 16, 2019

The UFC featherweight title reign of Cris Cyborg has come to an end — at least for now. Despite her recent loss to Amanda Nunes, however, Cyborg remains one of the most fearsome women on the planet, and a definite MMA star. As such, she believes it would unwise of the UFC to let her take her services elsewhere after her next fight, which is the final obligation on her current UFC contract. If Cris Cyborg does leave the UFC after her next fight, she believes her legions of fans will follow her.

Coach updates on Cris Cyborg's status with the UFC

Tom Taylor - January 9, 2019

Cris Cyborg is no longer the UFC women’s featherweight champion. The long-time titleholder’s reign came to a shocking halt in the co-main event of UFC 232 in late December, when she was knocked out by Amanda Nunes in just 51 seconds. Given that Cyborg’s current UFC contract will expire in March, some fans have speculated that she might take her services elsewhere at that point — perhaps to the boxing world, or to Japan for an exhibition bout.
