On December 29, in a fight that is expected to serve as the main event of UFC 232 in Las Vegas, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will challenge the fearsome Cris Cyborg for the UFC women’s featherweight title. If Nunes wins this fight, she will become one of just three fighters in UFC history to wear gold in two divisions concurrently — the other two being Conor McGregor, who held the featherweight and lightweight titles simultaneously in 2016, and Daniel Cormier, who currently owns the light heavyweight and heavyweight titles.

As expected, the much larger, long undefeated featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is indeed the favorite — but not by the giant margin she’s used to.

This is not ok with Cyborg, who has not fought since March, when she mauled Yana Kunitskaya to a first-round stoppage. The featherweight champ is simply not interested in enduring long layovers of this length.

It really seems to come down to which division she’d prefer to fight for the title in first.

And while this potential showdown is considered the toughest test of Cyborg’s career by many fans, her boxing coach Jason Parillo believes it’s actually a perfect stylistic matchup. “The person who is going to beat Cris Cyborg is Cris Cyborg, or [she retires],” Parillo told MMAJunkie this week. “Time catches up to all of us. But for the most part, Cris Cyborg, I don’t see it. Amanda Nunes, she doesn’t have a – she has a good style. She’s a good fighter with the way she took out Ronda [Rousey], but she’s got a style that’s absolutely perfect for Cris.
