Tai Tuivasa Calls Heavyweight ‘Boring’ With His Next Fight in The Works

By Justin Golightly - March 16, 2018

Big man Tai Tuivasa is on a perfect seven-fight win streak, with two of those in the UFC now. The most impressive state about the Aussie, is that all of those wins are finishes. Coming off his violent, first-round finish at UFC 221, it looks like he’s ready for his next opponent with a step up in competition. Not only that, but he’s trying to bring excitement back to a dead division.

Tai Tuivasa

“[The heavyweight division is] boring. Heavyweights that I used to watch, you know, it would be one or two big punches, just exciting, big hits. Now I think it’s just – they’re all just going out there and f-cking sh-t. It’s boring. I feel like I’m watching the soccer or something. Oh yeah, [there’s Francis Ngannou] but that’s one guy. I’m talking about the division.”

“That’s just like Mark Hunt, there’s only. But before, there used to be good fights. Well, I reckon. Now I think it’s just boring. [Stipe Miocic]’s a good fighter, but when he wants to be boring he can be boring. When he wants to win. Nah, I’ll fight [Stefan Struve]. For sure. I’d be going out there to knock him out, that’s for sure.” — Tai Tuivasa speaking to Submission Radio.

Is heavyweight boring? Or has the skills of the bigger fighters evened out so fights aren’t as one-sided? Either way, Tai Tuivasa is set on “Making Heavyweight Exciting Again” and may be fighting Andrei Arlovski at UFC 225, who just won against Stefan Struve with a decision at UFC 222. If him chugging beer out of a shoe is any indication, Tuivasa looks like he’ll be a man of his word.
