BKFC 82 did not feature the combat sports return of Frankie Edgar as initially advertised.

The former UFC Lightweight Champion was scheduled to face Jimmie Rivera inside Prudential Center in Newark. “The Answer” was removed from the card late, and many rumors swirled over the situation.

Speaking to MMAFighting.com, BKFC boss David Feldman explained the decision to pull Edgar without going into specifics on medicals.

“Honestly, I don’t even know if he even wants to fight with us again,” Feldman said. “I think he’s a little upset with us, as maybe he should be, but at the end of the day, we were looking out for his best interests. He is getting a very, very respectable check. I don’t think he’s mad at us for that.

“I think he’s mad at us because we took away an opportunity from him. Again, sometimes you have to save fighters from themselves, and I’m not saying that we saved Frankie from himself, but I’m saying for that night, our medical team wasn’t prepared for that and that’s why. Will we revisit it? We’ll certainly talk to him if he’s interested, we’ll definitely dive deep, and if we can make it happen we will.”

The world of bare-knuckle boxing has been known to entice the stars of the past. Edgar was set to be another name added to that list, but there were many concerns ahead of “The Answer’s” planned bout. Edgar admitted that members of his own family were initially hesitant upon hearing about his return.

Having prepared for a fight that didn’t happen, many are wondering what Edgar will decide to do. It may come down to what Edgar is being offered and which promotion would be willing to allow him to fight. Edgar has yet to comment on what transpired with his cancelled BKFC 82 fight.
