VIDEO | Ahead of UFC 213, watch Yoel Romero’s knockout-filled highlight reel

This Saturday, in the co-main event of UFC 213, Cuba’s Yoel Romero will collide with Kiwi contender Robert Whittaker for the UFC interim middleweight title.

Yoel Romero

Romero, who is a former Olympic wrestler, will enter this fight on a wild, eight-fight win-streak.

This streak began back in 2013, when he debuted in the UFC – and the middleweight division – with a crushing, flying knee knockout of Clifford Starks. From there, Romero picked up stoppage wins over game foes in Ronny Markes and Derek Brunson. Next up, Romero authored one of just two decision wins of his career, defeating Brad Tavares. He then picked up a devastating – though controversial – knockout win over the ever dangerous Tim Kennedy, which he followed with a crushing, elbow induced stoppage of former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Then came the second decision win of his career, a close win over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, and lastly, a flying-knee-induced KO of former middleweight champion Chris Weidman.

Needless to say, Romero has some incredible momentum behind him. Watch his incredible, knockout filled win-streak unfurl in the highlight reel below:

Whittaker, meanwhile, will enter this UFC 213 interim middleweight title showdown with similar momentum. He is on a seven-fight win-streak, having recently defeated game foes in Mike Rhodes, Clint Hester, Brad Tavares, Uriah Hall, Derek Brunson, and most impressively, “Jacare” Souza with a second-round TKO.

UFC 213 will be highlighted by a women’s bantamweight title fight between champ Amanda Nunes and challenger Valentine Shevchenko. It will also include a heavyweight rematch between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum, and a lightweight scrap between Anthony Pettis and Jim Miller.

Though UFC 213 has been rattled by injury, losing a bantamweight title fight between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw, and a welterweight scrap between Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone, it remains one of the best cards of the year thus far.

Do you think Yoel Romero will claim interim middleweight gold at UFC 213?
