Yair Rodriguez issues statement on tough loss to Frankie Edgar

By Tom Taylor - May 14, 2017

Last night, on the main card of the stacked UFC 211, red hot featherweight prospect Yair Rodriguez faced the biggest test of his career in former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Unfortunately for Rodriguez and his fans, this test proved to be a little too much. After giving up several takedowns, Rodriguez was pummelled by his foe’s ground and pound until the cage-side physician had no choice but to call a stop to the action between rounds.

In the wake of this tough loss, Rodriguez has released a poignant statement on his official Facebook account. See it below:

Me duele por que me he rendido al deporte , he cambiado mis hábitos y mi vida , siempre entreno al máximo y cuando llego…

“It hurts me because I’ve given up to sport, I’ve changed my habits and my life, always train to the fullest and when I get to the limit, always pushed me but sometimes it’s not enough to do all that and you have to do more and search in new places. I know that my performance was not for nothing the best and I stood up to who I knew would be one of the most difficult trials of my life! What comes to mention earlier and I’ll say it again. A defeat brought me to this point and this defeat won’t leave me lying here. I came to this company and to this world to deal with the best of the best way to make me the same in the best of the best. I so soon, I apologize for not being able to complete this goal I said I would. I’m not saying I’ll be back stronger why don’t I’m gone. I’m still here strong and look to the sky! To God be the judge of that my destiny and many thanks to all of you for your love and unconditional love! See the flags of Mexico  and hear their voices turn with honey and energy towards me are priceless! And to stop me would first have to kill me I won’t give up.”

How do you think Yair Rodriguez will respond to this loss?
