Saturday night in Portland Oregon, #11 ranked lightweight Will Brooks stepped into the Octagon to square off against Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira, who was making his lightweight debut.
Olivera, who missed weight by five pounds the previous day, managed to injure Brooks’ rib in the first round during an exchange in the clinch. As the fight progressed, Brooks rib injury began to affect his performance more and more.
In the third round, Brooks clearly in tremendous amounts of pain as he was seen wincing in pain throughout the first half of the round. Ultimately, Oliveira secured a takedown, and got the TKO win over the former Bellator MMA champion.
After the fight, the action continued as Oliveira crotch chopped in Brooks direction, and then proceeded to perform another offensive gesture in Brooks’ direction. Brooks got up and threw his mouthpiece at ‘Cowboy’ as referee Herb Dean kept the pair separated.
