In the main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: Portland’ former top ranked flyweights John Lineker and John Dodson stepped into the Octagon in a pivotal bantamweight showdown.
Lineker, who missed weight the previous day, was on the offensive for the majority of the fight, stalking ‘The Magician’ down and looking to land bombs while his opponent had his back to the cage.
While Lineker was motioning for Dodson to stand and trade with him, Dodson kept his composure and looked to avoid Lineker, while counter-striking when ‘Hands of Stone’ looked to close the distance.
The fight, which went the distance, had the audience in Portland, Oregon on their feet. Ultimately however, Lineker was awarded the split decision win, after two of the three ringside judges scored the fight 48-47 in his favor.
While Lineker called for a bantamweight title fight with Dominick Cruz during his post-fight Octagon, speech, the fact that he missed weight the day before could very well impede his chances of getting a title fight.
Despite that, with his win over Dodson Saturday evening, Lineker made it six straight wins, four of which have come at bantamweight.
