Colby Covington reignites Kamaru Usman feud after shutting down Belal Muhammad RAF match

Former UFC star Colby Covington says he has ‘unfinished business’ with Kamaru Usman on the Real American Freestyle mats.

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman lost to Dricus du Plessis after a five-round back-and-forth battle on Saturday at UFC OKC. In his middleweight return, Usman failed to make his case for a title shot as Du Plessis walked away with a nice bounce-back victory.

Usman didn’t commit to retiring after UFC OKC, leaving the door open to fighting at least once more before considering hanging up the gloves. He could potentially return to 170 lbs after his most-recent welterweight win over Joaquin Buckley at UFC Atlanta.

With his UFC future indefinitely uncertain, Usman was called out by two-time foe Colby Covington, who handed Arman Tsarukyan his first Real American Freestyle loss this past weekend. After a post-match scuffle with Muhammad at the post-fight press conference, Covington claims a potential matchup with Muhammad is off the table.

That leaves the door open for Covington and Usman to potentially square off for a third time in their legendary careers.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Covington called out Usman for a trilogy on the RAF mats.

“He was up to his same old tricks (vs. Dricus du Plessis), why do you think I named him ‘Marty Fake Newsman’? All his little fake fouls, it’s fake news!” Covington said of Usman.

“He’s a fake person and he got his a– beat. I was excited to see Dricus get that win…the Usman match has been discussed, and I think we need to do it. That’s who fits in the box of this poll for anyone else (other than Belal Muhammad), the trilogy with Usman. We have unfinished business, so if he wants to take a shot at this Cruiserweight Crossover World Championship in RAF, let’s do it. Come get it! You’re not going to be faking calls during those six minutes on the RAF mat.

“I’m going to break you on that mat because you’re a D2 scrub, and I’m a D1 All-American,” Covington continued. “We just need his little rat manager to get involved.”
