It looks like things are moving forward for our UFC Hall of Fame legend BJ Penn in his return to the Octagon. With BJ training in New Mexico with some of the greatest MMA fighters in the world at the JacksonWink MMA Academy, he is preparing to be his best and revealed some information on his next bout. “The Prodigy” spoke with Kenny Florian and Jon Anik on the Anik and Florian podcast on Monday. Penn revealed to the guys that he has verbally agreed to an opponent for UFC 197 but was not allowed to disclose who it was just yet.

Recently it was announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez had pulled out of his UFC 196 main event scrap with Fabricio Werdum as a result of a back injury. Shortly after, it was announced that Stipe Miocic had filled in for Velasquez. Following that announcement Fabricio Werdum withdrew from the bout, leaving UFC 196 without a main event.

When Anderson Silva knocked out Vitor Belfort with a front kick back in 2011, it was Seagal who took credit for teaching Silva the kick. Earlier this month in Boston Dominick Cruz reclaimed his UFC bantamweight championship in just his 2nd fight in 4 years. Despite the lengthy layoff, Cruz put on a spectacular performance that saw him pick up a split decision win over TJ Dillashaw. Many believed that the decision was a controversial one, and that Dillashaw should have been given the nod. Immediately following the bout, Cruz’s longtime nemesis Urijah Faber called out ‘The Dominator’ for a trilogy fight. While there are no plans set in stone, Dillashaw spoke about Faber potentially getting the title shot rather than him getting an immediate rematch.

On Sunday, UFC President Dana White announced that Cain Velasquez was forced out of his UFC 196 title fight with heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum due to an injury. Top contender Stipe Miocic was set to fill in for Velasquez for his chance at the title.

With Stipe Miocic looking like a hero for stepping up in such short notice, sources reveal that the fight in fact will not go down between Miocic and Werdum. Cain Velasquez had to call off the fight due to injury leaving Werdum less than two weeks to prepare for a different fight. Werdum reserved the right not to fight due to his own injuries that he would of had to fight through had not Velasquez stepped down from the title fight.
