Conor McGregor shares update on UFC negotiations: “Sometime in the summer”

Conor McGregor has given an update on his UFC status.

McGregor has been hitting the gym in an effort to make his comeback fight. A planned return at UFC 303 back in June 2024 didn’t pan out for the “Notorious” one. He was set to face Michael Chandler, but an injury forced him to be pulled from the card. McGregor hasn’t competed since 2021, suffering a leg break against Dustin Poirier.

McGregor spoke to DrinkLitt outside of The Black Forge in Ireland, and he revealed the latest on his talks with UFC (via MMAFighting).

“I am in negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship about the bout, either the White House or thereabouts. Sometime in the summer, McGregor will return.”

McGregor certainly won’t have trouble finding a dance partner for his return fight. UFC 326 headliner Max Holloway expressed his interest in a rematch with McGregor during a recent interview.

“The belt is definitely the goal, but I also have the BMF title, which I’m super proud of, and it opens up a lot of really interesting fights,” Holloway said to Stake. “Then we have a certain Conor McGregor wanting to make his return to the cage. You know, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t take that fight. It’s Conor McGregor man. You have to take that fight.

“We obviously have our history, and I think it would be great at The White House. Another one I had history with is Khabib. You know, he’s retired, but I feel like Islam is part of that team, and I’d like a shot at Islam as well. I think we’re in a really great position with some exciting fights ahead.”

Whether or not McGregor ultimately fights on the UFC White House card remains to be seen. UFC CEO Dana White has told fans that more details on the historic event will be made available soon.
