UFC Freedom 250 Results: Justin Gaethje stops Ilia Topuria (Video)

Tonight’s UFC Freedom 250 event is headlined by a lightweight title fight featuring Ilia Topuria taking on current interim champ Justin Gaethje.

Topuria (17-1 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since violently knocking out Charles Oliveira in the first-round of their title fight at UFC 317 in June of last year. Prior to that triumph, ‘El Matador’ was coming off back-to-back knockout wins over Max Holloway and Alex Volkanovski respectively.

Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje (28-5 MMA) was most previously seen in action this past January at UFC 324, where he scored a unanimous decision win over Paddy Pimblett to claim the promotion‘s interim lightweight title. Prior to that victory, ‘The Highlight’ was coming off a decision win over Rafael Fiziev.

Round one of the UFC Freedom 250 main event begins and Justin Gaethje lands a stiff jab to start. Ilia Topuria is walking him down early. Gaethje with another jab and then an uppercut. ‘El Matador’ with a good right hand inside. He lands another. Gaethje answers with a right and then an uppercut. ‘The Highlight’ attempts a high kick. Topuria counters with a right hand. He lands another. A good jab from Gaethje in return. Ilia’s right eye is busted up. He leaps in with another solid right hand. A good right hand from the interim champ. He lands another. Ilia Topuria remains undeterred. He lands a big right and then a left. He’s unloading punches now. Round two of the UFC Freedom 250 main event begins and Ilia Topuria is right back to forward pressure. A good body shot form the champ. Gaethje counters with an uppercut. Topuria works the body with two shots. Gaethje answers with an uppercut. ‘El Matador’ with a right hand. Justin Gaethje answers with one of his own. Three big shots from Ilia. He rips the body. And some more. Gaethje goes down from body shots. Topuria takes full mount. He looks for an armbar. Now he moves to a triangle from full mount. He moves back to an armbar. Gaethje escapes. The third round of this lightweight title fight begins and Justin Gaethje quickly forces the clinch. ‘The Highlight’ with a good low kick. Ilia Topuria appears as though he’s looking to get a second wind. Gaethje hits two jabs from the pocket. Gaethje with a massive right. He forces Topuria to the ground. The champ scrambles back to his feet. His face is a mess. Justin Gaethje with a head kick that is partially blocked. Topuria throws a 1-2. Gaethje answers with an uppercut. Topuria answers. Round four begins of the UFC Freedom 250 event begins and the fighters clinch right away. Justin Gaethje with an uppercut. A good right hand from ‘The Highlight’.
