A lightweight tilt between Jason Saggo (11-2 MMA) and Justin Salas (12-7 MMA) served as the second bout of tonight’s UFC 196 card in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Saggo opens up with a body kick followed by an inside leg kick. Salas presses forward with a left hand that is partially blocked. Saggo throws a hook kick but it misses and he gets taken down by Salas for his efforts. Saggo working for a submission from his back and eventually sweeps Salas and winds up in top position. Good elbows from Saggo who is now working in side control. Elbows and hammer fists from the top by Saggo. He is searching for an armbar but Salas defends. Saggo moves to the back of Salas and sinks in one hook. He gets both hooks in and starts pounding away on Salas. The ref steps in and it is all over!

A featherweight tilt between Julian Erosa (15-3 MMA) and Teruto Ishihara (8-2-2 MMA) kicked off tonight’s UFC 196 event in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Ishihara is applying some serious pressure to start. The Japanese fighter lands a solid inside leg kick on Erosa. More good leg kicks from Teruto and he follows that up with en excellent combo. Erosa is struggling to find his range. Ishihara lands another good leg kick but Erosa eats it and lands a solid front kick that actually knocks Ishihara down. Teruto bounces back up and lands a head kick followed by two solid shots on Erosa. Julian would score a late takedown to close out round one.

After Frankie Edgar KO’d Chad Mendes in the TUF 22 finale, Dana White promised him a UFC featherweight title shot. The next night Conor McGregor KO’d Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds to claim the UFC featherweight championship. Immediately following that fight, there was much speculation as to who would get the next featherweight title shot.

To date, Claudia Gadelha is the only woman to nearly defeat Joanna Jedrzejczyk inside the Octagon. Jedrzejczyk won the fight via split decision and then went on to defeat Carla Esparza to claim the UFC women’s bantamweight championship.

While many expected Anderson Silva to fight at UFC 198 on May 14th in his hometown of Curitiba Brazil, it appears that ‘The Spider’ won’t. UFC Brazil GM Giovanni Decker explained that there the lack of opponents for Silva on the card, which has resulted in him declining to fight according to Combate.

Conor McGregor’s way of trash talking to hype fights has made him one of the most watched fighters. When Conor McGregor fights, fans tune in regardless of whether or not it’s to see him win or lose. According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, McGregor has become the 1st fighter in UFC history to get a $1 million purse. In addition, McGregor will likely get a cut of PPV sales.

Earlier today at the UFC 196 weigh-ins, Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor had their final staredown before their welterweight scrap tomorrow night. After their heated staredown, that saw Diaz make McGregor flinch, Diaz went off on the featherweight champion in his interview.
