A key heavyweight bout between veterans Mark Hunt (12-10-1 MMA) and Frank Mir (18-11 MMA) served as the main event for tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 event in Brisbane, Australia. Round one begins and Hunt opens with a heavy inside leg kick. Frank dives in for a takedown but it is not there. Hunt with a leg kick. Good jab from Mir. Frank with a head kick attempt that misses. Hunt misses with a big right. Another right hand from Hunt, this one partially lands. Mark misses with another big right. Huge right lands and knocks out Mir.

A lightweight bout between Jake Matthews (10-1 MMA) and Johnny Case (22-5 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 main card in Brisbane, Australia. Round one begins and Matthews opens up with two big right hands. Case with a low kick. Matthews with another nice punch. Case with a good combo. Johnny throws a kick but Jake catches it. Good shot to the body from Matthews. Case with a good jab and then a leg kick. Jake shoots in but Johnny tosses him aside. Case is looking comfortable in there. Matthews with a leg kick and then a nice right hand. Both fighters trade good shots. Nice leg kick from Matthews.  Good push kick and then a right hand to close out round one for Case.

May’s UFC Fight Night event in Las Vegas will be headlined by a bantamweight bout between undefeated 135-pound fighters Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt. The UFC announced the fight during the UFC Brisbane event.

When Stephen Thompson defeated former UFC welterweight title holder Johny Hendricks via first-round TKO at last month’s UFC Fight Night 82 event, he was hoping that the UFC would grant him with a title shot against current champ Robbie Lawler. Instead, the UFC opted to match “Wonder Boy” up against former title challenger and ‘close friend’ Rory MacDonald in a fight which will serve as the main event for the UFC’s debut in Ottawa, Canada on June 18.

A middleweight bout between Daniel Kelly (11-1 MMA) and Antonio Carlos Junior (5-2 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 main card in Brisbane. Round one begins and Dan Kelly and Carlos Junior exchange kicks. Antonio gets a double leg takedown and immediately takes the back of Kelly. He is looking for a rear-naked choke submission. He locks up a body triangle and continues to attack the neck. Kelly rolls but cannot escape. Nice elbow from the back by Carlos Junior. Good shots from Antonio who is still searching for the choke. Big shots land from Carlos Junior. Antonio looks for an armbar at the end of the round, but cannot lock it in before the horn sounds.

A women’s strawweight bout between Bec Rawlings (7-4 MMA) and Seo Hee Ham (16-7 MMA) took place at tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 event in Brisbane, Australia. Bec Rawlings was able to find her range early on in round one. She frequently landed her left hand on Ham and was also able to score with some huge right hands in the opening five minutes. Seo Hee Ham did land a couple decent leg kicks in round one, but the bigger and better shots definitely came from the hands and feet of Bec Rawlings.

A welterweight bout between Brendan O’Reilly (6-2 MMA) and Alan Jouban (13-4 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 prelims in Brisbane, Australia. Alan Jouban utilized some impressive striking to earn the first-round TKO victory over Brendan O’Reilly.

A featherweight bout between Dan Hooker (13-6 MMA) and Mark Eddiva (6-3 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 prelims in Brisbane. Dan Hooker was able to lock in a tight guillotine choke early that Eddive could just not escape. Mark tried his best to escape the submission but Hooker was relentless in going for the finish.

A women’s bantamweight bout between Leslie Smith (8-6-1 MMA) and Rin Nakai (16-2-1 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 prelims on FOX Sports 1. Leslie Smith was able to hand Rin Nakai just the second loss of her career at tonight’s UFC Brisbane event.

A lightweight bout between Ross Pearson (19-10 MMA) and Chad Laprise (10-2 MMA) capped off the UFC Fight Night 85 fight pass prelims in Brisbane, Australia. Round one begins and Larpise misses with a head kick. Good leg kick scores for Chad and Ross fires back with a good kick to the body. Another solid inside leg kick from Laprise. Pearson responds with a jab. Nice leg kick lands for Ross. Chad fires back with a body kick. Laprise with a high kick but Ross blocks it. Good lefts from both men. Ross with a solid leg kick. High kick misses from Pearson but he comes back and lands a good leg kick. Nice jab from Laprise. Pearson lands a leaping left hook. Good body kick from Chad. The fighters trade leg kicks. Laprise with a nice combo. Good kick from Ross. Laprise lands a good kick to end round one.

A lightweight bout between Alan Patrick (13-1 MMA) and Damien Brown (15-9 MMA) kicked off tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 event in Brisbane, Australia. Round one begins and Patrick immediately shoots in and score a takedown. He moves to half-guard and starts raining down punches from the top. Brown scrambles to his feet but Patrick locks in a guillotine choke which forces Damien back to the down to the canvas. Patrick moves back to half-guard and begins firing off some big elbows. Brown again scrambles to his feet and after a failed guillotine choke from Alan, he winds up in top position. A couple of good shots from Damien and Patrick is back up. Brown takes him down again but Patrick is able to scramble and get back to his feet quickly. Good left hand from Brown but Patrick score a trip and gets him back down. Kimura attempt from Brown but Patrick escapes. Good shots from the top by Patrick. The bell sounds to end round one.
