A key middleweight bout between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza (23-4 MMA) and former UFC champion Vitor Belfort (25-12 MMA) served as the co-main event of tonight’s UFC 198 fight card in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and Souza presses forward with a kick to the body of Belfort. Vitor with a flying knee attempt that misses. Souza shoots in for a takedown but Vitor was waiting for it. The fighters engage in the clinch. Vitor escapes the position and breaks free. “Jacare” with a leg kick. Vitor with another flying knee attempt. “Jacare” shoots in for a takedown and this time he gets it. He moves to half guard on Belfort. Big right hands from Souza. Vitor is busted up from the strikes. The referee comes in and stops the action so the doctor can check Belfort’s cut. After a brief break in the action we resume with Souza still in top position. Vitor scrambles and gets back to his feet. Souza pushes Vitor against the fence and begins landing some shots. He drops down for another takedown and gets it. Vitor more less pulled guard there. Souza with some big right hands from the top. Vitor is in all kinds of trouble. “Jacare” is in full mount. He’s blasting off on Belfort with strikes. The referee is taking a good look and calls the fight.

A women’s catchweight bout (140lbs) between Cristiane Justino (16-1 MMA) and Leslie Smith (8-7-1 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC 198 main card in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and Justino presses forward and lands a nice combination. “Cyborg” with a stiff jab. Smith misses with a wild right hand. She throws a leg kick. Huge shots from Justino. Smith drops and Cyborg is all over with punches. This one is all over folks.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua (24-10 MMA) took on Corey Anderson (8-2 MMA) during tonight’s UFC 198 pay-per-view fight card in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and “Shogun” misses with a leaping right hand. Good kick from Rua. Nice jab from Anderson but “Shogun” replies with a big leg kick. Nice uppercut from Rua. Anderson with a couple of nice jabs. Nice overhand right from Rua. Anderson with a flying knee but Rua catches him with a right hand. Anderson presses Rua against the fence and lands a nice right hand as they break. “Shogun” with a leg kick. Corey with a stiff jab. Nice left hook from Rua. Anderson with a nice shot that lands. Rua with a leg kick. Good left hand and then a leg kick by Anderson. More shots from Corey. He lands a stiff jab on Rua. “shogun” with a left hand that drops Anderson. He rushes in with huge hammer fists but the horn sounds before he can finish Corey off.

A lightweight bout between Warlley Alves (10-1 MMA) and Bryan Barberena (12-3 MMA) kicked off the UFC 198 par-per-view card in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and Alves charges forward and gets a hold of Barberena’s neck. He locks in a guillotine choke and it is tight. Barberena looks to be in trouble but is somehow able to scramble and wind up in top position. Alves gets back to his feet and lands a good body kick followed by a right hand. Alves with a good shot to the body of Barberena from the clinch. Barberena responds with a nice right hand. Alves misses with a high kick. Excellent body kick lands for Warlley. Barberena with a good inside leg kick and then another. Alves comes forward and lands an uppercut. Good elbow from the clinch by Barberena. The fighters break and Bryan lands a kick. He comes forward with punches. Alves with an elbow. Round one comes to an end.

A middleweight tilt between Thiago Santos (13-3 MMA) and Nate Marquardt (34-16-2 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC 198 prelims in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and Santos starts off with some nice kicks. Thiago with a nice left kick to the body of Nate. Marquardt with a nice inside leg kick. Both fighters land kicks. Marquardt with another big leg kick. Santos with a big left kick but Nate blocks it. Huge left hand drops Marquardt. Santos jumps in to Nate’s guard. Marquardt scrambles to his feet. Huge left hand from Santos. Marquardt is hurt. More punches from Santos and Nate is down. It is all over.

A lightweight bout between Francisco Trinaldo (20-4 MMA) and Yancy Medeiros (12-4 MMA) took place on tonight’s UFC 198 prelims in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and Yancy starts things off with a kick to the body. Trinaldo shoots in and gets a body lock on Medeiros. He presses the Hawaiian against the fence and begins working for a takedown. Yancy turns Francisco around and lands a knee to the body. Trinaldo replies with a nice knee of his own. The fighters finally break from the clinch position. Medeiros with a nice left hand. Yancy responds with a stiff jab. Trinaldo with a nice combination. He lands a left hand over the top. Trinaldo is throwing bombs. Medeiros is hurt. He throws a spinning back kick. Another massive shot lands for Trinaldo. Francisco is throwing all he has but Yancy won’t go down. Medeiros is saved by the bell and Trinaldo looks exhausted.

A bantamweight bout between John Lineker (27-7 MMA) and Rob Font (12-2 MMA) kicked off the televised portion of tonight’s UFC 198 prelims in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and Font opens up with a front kick to the body of Lineker. Rob with a high kick that misses. Good counter right to the body by John. Lineker lands a solid leg kick. Good jabs from Font. He lands an uppercut. Lineker is having trouble closing the distance. He charges forward with punches but nothing lands. Font with a jab but Lineker is able to counter with a left hand. Good leg kick scores for Font. Good combination from John. He goes to the body of Font. Rob retreats and pumps his jab. Lineker is stalking him. He charges forward. Lineker with a leg kick that drops Font. Rob pops right back to his feet and lands a jab. Lineker comes forward and lands some big shots to the body and head of Font. Lineker shoots in and lands a takedown. He’s working from half guard and landing some nice shots. Font fights his way back to his feet. Lineker charges forward and lands some big shots to the body. Round one comes to an end.

The final bout of tonight’s UFC 198 Fight Pass Prelims featured a light heavyweight tilt between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (22-7 MMA) and Patrick Cummins (8-4 MMA). Round one begins and Cummins starts things off with a leg kick. Pat throws a high kick that misses. He follows up with another leg kick. Cummins shoots in for a takedown but Lil Nog stuffs it. Nogueira paws with the jab. Cummins with a good leg kick and then one to the body. Pat is keeping his distance well. He lands another inside leg kick on Rogerio. Good jab from Nogueira. He follows that up with a left hook. Cummins shoots in but can’t secure the takedown. Good kicks from Cummins. Nice uppercut scores for Cummins. He follows that up with a solid leg kick. Nice combo from Nogueira lands. Cummins with a short right hand. Nogueira with a big left and then a right hand. Cummins is hurt. Lil Nog with another big shot that drops Pat. Cummins is getting battered. He gets up to his feet and start absorbing huge shots. Finally the referee steps in and calls it.

A featherweight bout between Renato Moicano (10-0-1 MMA) and Zubaira Tukhugov (18-4 MMA) kicked off tonight’s UFC 198 card in Curitiba, Brazil. Round one begins and Renato throws a body kick that misses. Tukhugov is switching stances and comes in with a right. Good low kicks from Renato. Tukhugov charges forward with a left hand. The Brazilian lands a nice counter right hand. Tukhugov misses with a high kick but connects with a follow up side kick. Renato with a quick jab. He lands a nice leg kick but Tukhugov shoots in and lands a takedown. Moicano is utilizing the rubber guard technique from his back. He is trying to setup a triangle choke but Tukhugov pulls out and stands back up. Tukhugov tries to leap in to half guard but after a scramble Renato is on his back. Tukhugov is able to roll out of the position as round one comes to and end.

While Cris Cyborg hasn’t made her UFC debut just yet, the Invicta FC champion has her eyes set on a major fight after her UFC 198 scrap with Leslie Smith tonight. The fight is a catchweight bout at 140 pounds, however Cyborg could very well go back up to featherweight after the bout despite the UFC not having a women’s featherweight division.

While Conor McGregor has been sidelined ahead of UFC 200, where he was originally slated to fight Nate Diaz in a highly anticipated rematch, that hasn’t prevented McGregor from keeping his name in the headlines. Although highly unlikely, a potential boxing match between McGregor and famed prizefighter Floyd Mayweather has been rumored for several weeks now, with Mayweather even going as far as to predict that the fight will “absolutely” happen. While Mayweather has praised McGregor’s striking skills, the fight would undoubtably be the toughest test of McGregor’s combat sports career.

Back in 2010, Demian Maia competed against Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight championship in just his 14th professional MMA fight. The fight went the full 5 rounds, and drew quite a bit of criticism for Silva, who taunted Maia throughout the entire fight while appearing to never look to ‘pull the trigger’ and knock his opponent out. Despite that, Silva dominated the fight, earning himself a unanimous decision win. Now, 6 years later, Maia is gearing up for his UFC 198 fight against Matt Brown tonight. The MMA world was left in shock when UFC President Dana White announced that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor had been pulled from his scheduled bout against Nate Diaz at UFC 200, arguably the UFC’s biggest card in history. While there was much speculation as to whether or not the UFC brass would eventually give in and put McGregor on the card once again, they stuck to their guns and McGregor was left on the sidelines.

Going into the fight, Cyborg is a massive favorite to defeat Smith, who has a 8-6-1 record as a professional. While the odds seem extremely one sided in favor of Cyborg despite it being her promotional debut, this stat breakdown sheds some light on why Cyborg is such a heavy favorite.
