In less than two weeks’ time, in the co-main event of UFC 205, Tyron Woodley will defend his UFC welterweight title against streaking karate expert Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Given the starkly differing styles possessed by the two men, and the fight-altering power they share, this is a difficult fight to predict. No matter the end result, however, this welterweight title fight marks a massive moment in the history of the UFC welterweight division. Contrary to UFC President Dana White’s recent claims that Ronda Rousey is “by far” a bigger star than Conor McGregor, the widespread perception seems to be that the Irishman is indeed the king of mixed martial arts, if not all of combat sports. McGregor has, after all, repeatedly demolished records in the areas of pay-per-view sales and fighter pay. He has also been tasked with headlining UFC 205, the biggest card in the organization’s history, which is a clear indication of his value.

In fact, Bisping was originally in talks to welcome former welterweight champ Georges Saint Pierre at UFC 206 in Toronto, just two months removed from his first title defense against Hendo last month.

UFC light heavyweight kingpin Daniel Cormier is currently gearing up for what he hopes will be his second successful title defense when he steps into the Octagon in the main event of UFC 206 in Toronto on December 10th against heavy-handed light heavyweight Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson. This won’t be the first time the pair have collided in the Octagon. After pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones was involved in a hit-and-run car accident in April of 2015, the UFC pulled Jones from his scheduled title defense against Anthony Johnson before stripping Jones of the light heavyweight championship and having Daniel Cormier fight Johnson for the vacant light heavyweight championship.

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is coming off a big win over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 back in July, which returned him to the win column after dropping a controversial split decision to Dominick Cruz back in January of 2016 to lose the bantamweight championship. Following Dillashaw’s win over Assuncao, there was talk of whether or not he would get the next title shot at bantamweight, and secure himself a rematch with Cruz, however ultimately, the UFC opted to give the title shot to streaking bantamweight prospect Cody Garbrandt, who is an undefeated Team Alpha Male prospect. Garbrandt’s MMA record currently sits at 10-0, which includes a 5-0 run inside the Octagon. Throughout the course of his stint with the UFC, Garbrandt has finished all but one opponent via KO/TKO. The scrap between Cruz and Garbrandt is currently slated to take place at UFC 207 on December 30th, the UFC’s New Years Eve card.

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is coming off a unanimous decision win over Dan Henderson in the main event of UFC 204 earlier this month, where he made his first successful title defense. Following the fight, it was revealed that Bisping could very well find himself suspended for six months for medical reasons. With that being said, Bisping was then linked to a fight with Georges St-Pierre for UFC 206 in Toronto on December 10th. While it appeared as though the bout would be booked, with St-Pierre even going as far as to tell his fans that they would have news regarding his comeback in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, negotiations between St-Pierre’s camp and the UFC once again came up dry, and resulted in the former welterweight kingpin releasing a statement in which he told Bisping that while he would love to fight, negotiations with the UFC came up with nothing.
