MVP and Gonzales have quite a bit of history, having been matched up twice previously to no avail. When it comes to UFC 205, no fight is generating more hype than the main event, which will see Conor McGregor attempt to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles concurrently by defeating lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez. A quick look at this historic card’s lineup, however, reveals that there is much more to be excited about than the main event – particularly the other two title fights that top the bill.

UFC 205, which will emanate from New York City’s hallowed Madison Square Garden on November 12, will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between divisional king Eddie Alvarez and undisputed featherweight champ Conor McGregor. The bout will mark Alvarez’s opportunity to derail one of the biggest hype trains in MMA, and McGregor’s opportunity to make history as the first fighter to hold two UFC titles concurrently. Needless to say, this is a massive fight. For a time, however, it looked as though this fight wouldn’t actually come to fruition, as the UFC had a difficult time negotiating its terms with both fighters involved. Our chances of seeing this fight looked bleakest in late September, when UFC President Dana White assured that the next shot at Alvarez’s lightweight title would go to undefeated contender Khabib Nurmagomedov – not McGregor.

If the Irish superstar is successful in this attempt, he’ll become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles in two weight classes simultaneously. Yet while a title-winning defeat Alvarez would undoubtedly be the finest accomplishment of McGregor’s already illustrious career, it’s also likely to give him a feeling of deja vu. It would, after all, be a big-stage repeat of an earlier career highlight, which saw him steal the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship lightweight title a little over six months after winning the same promotion’s featherweight crown.

That same evening at Madison Square Garden, current UFC featherweight title holder Conor McGregor will move up a weight class to challenge current UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for his 155-pound strap.
