One of the greatest cards in UFC history is set to take place just a little over two weeks from today. Three UFC championship title fights will go down at UFC 205 with the main event being headlined by the lightweight title showdown between champion Eddie Alvarez looking to defend his title for the first time against current UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor. What makes the lightweight title fight different than any other is that Conor McGregor has a chance to make history by becoming the first fighter in the UFC to ever be the champion of two UFC divisions at the same time. However, “The Notorious” has a tough task ahead of him as Eddie Alvarez is no easy fight.

Thiago Alves will not only remain on the UFC 205 card after his original opponent Al Iaquinta dropped out, he will now be headlining the Fight Pass prelims of the UFC’s epic first-ever card in New York City. Current number one UFC ranked bantamweight TJ Dillashaw is more than upset over the recently announced bantamweight title fight between champion Dominick Cruz and number 6 UFC ranked contender Cody Garbrandt. Dillashaw is looking to rematch Cruz after the two fought a close five-round title fight at UFC Fight Night 81 back in January where Cruz walked away with the belt by judge’s split decision. Now with the bantamweight title fight between Cruz and Garbrandt taking place at UFC 207, Dillashaw is simply baffled seeing Cruz in the position he feels he should rightfully be in.

MMA veteran Carlos Condit has been competing in MMA professionally for nearly 15 years now. The former interim UFC welterweight champion unfortunately is in the midst of a 2-fight losing streak that saw him drop a controversial split decision to Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC 195 in a performance that many thought should have earned him the welterweight title, and most recently lose via first round submission to Demian Maia at ‘UFC Fight Night: Vancouver’ in August. Prior to his fight with Robbie Lawler, Condit admitted that he was likely nearing the end of his MMA career, however shortly following his loss to Robbie Lawler, Condit took to social media to announce that he would be stepping into the Octagon to fight Demian Maia for “one more” fight.

Alexander Emelianenko released from prison three years early, plans to fight in 2016

Alexander Emelianenko, brother of MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, has been released from prison three years early on parole for “good behavior” according to Interfax.ru. Emelianenko was sentenced to four and a half years in prison back in 2015 after he was convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his housekeeper, while forcing her to take “narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances”. According to the initial report at the time of his conviction, Emelianenko took the housekeeper’s passport, and forced her to take drugs and perform sexual favors for him in order to get the passport back. Emelianenko claimed the entire encounter was consensual, and plead not guilty to the charges. Despite that he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, where he has remained until the present time.

While reports have continued to emerge over the past several weeks that former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre would be returning to the Octagon at UFC 206 in Toronto, with St-Pierre himself promising fans news regarding his return in ‘a few weeks maximum’. Unfortunately however, while St-Pierre was hoping to deliver on his promise of news of his return, shortly after ‘Rush’ gave the interview he then revealed in a separate interview that he had terminated his contract with the UFC, and was now a free agent. Despite that, St-Pierre remained in Las Vegas, with many speculating that St-Pierre remained in Vegas to negotiate with the UFC brass.

Ahead of UFC 205 on November 12th, UFC President Dana White revealed that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will be making a “personal” announcement “out of left field”. Of course, fans immediately began speculating as to what the announcement could be, given that the fight is arguably the biggest in UFC history. Reports began to emerge that McGregor was going to take around a year off to mend relationships with family members that had been strained by his busy work schedule. While there had been no word from McGregor himself, reports then began to emerge from people in McGregor’s camp stating that he would be taking a year off from fighting to help his girlfriend, Dee Devlin with the upcoming birth of their first child.

The knockout specialist last fought over five years ago in the Octagon in a losing effort against Junior dos Santos at UFC 131. Carwin announced his retirement from mixed martial arts shortly after his loss to dos Santos with injuries hindering him from competing at his best.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum raised a lot of eyebrows after posting a photo of him donning Nike attire as a protest of Reebok’s stranglehold on the UFC’s sponsorship deals. He captioned the Nike picture with rather crass hashtags, writing “I’m not generic, I’m Nike since childhood,” while using hashtags in Spanish that in English, translate to “suck my balls Reebok.”
