When it comes to UFC 205, no fight is generating more hype than the main event, which will see Conor McGregor attempt to become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles concurrently by defeating lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez. A quick look at this historic card’s lineup, however, reveals that there is much more to be excited about than the main event – particularly the other two title fights that top the bill.
One of these title fights will occur at welterweight, where reigning champ Tyron Woodley will take on streaking challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. The other will occur at strawweight, where divisional queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk will mix it up with challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a clash of undefeated Polish fighters.
Since winning the strawweight title with a second-round mauling of inaugural champion Carla Esparza in March of 2015, Jedrzejczyk has defended it three times, first TKOing Jessica Penne, then out-hustling Valerie Letourneau to a decision, and most recently, outlasting long-time rival Claudia Gadelha to a hard-fought unanimous win. Over the course of her short but riveting reign as strawweight queen, the Polish striker has emerged as one of the UFC’s most popular fighters, dazzling in the cage with her all-violence fighting style, and winning hearts outside it with her unique brand of trash talk and telegenic personality.
The fan-made promo video at the top of this post is a celebration of Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s rise to MMA superstardom, and it’s sure to get you even more pumped for UFC 205.
In addition to its three title fights, UFC 205’s main card will feature a middleweight bout between Chris Weidman and Yoel Romero, a welterweight showdown between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Kelvin Gastelum, and a bantamweight scrap between Miesha Tate and Raquel Pennington. It all goes down on November 12, inside New York City’s legendary Madison Square Garden.
