Former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn (16-10-2) was expected to make his octagon return against former UFC featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas at last month’s scheduled UFC Fight Night 97 event. However, due to an injury suffered in training camp, “The Prodigy” was forced to pullout of the contest and October’s UFC Manila event was later cancelled entirely.

This past weekend at UFC 205, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate stepped into the Octagon to fight Raquel Pennington in the kickoff bout for the main card of UFC 205. Tate, who lost the women’s bantamweight championship to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 via 1st round submission, was looking to return to the win column with a win over Pennington, who she coached on The Ultimate Fighter season 18 back in 2013.

This past weekend at UFC 205, top ranked UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov stepped into the Octagon on the preliminary card portion of the historic fight card to square off against heavy handed lightweight Michael Johnson. The fight was an incredibly dominant one for Nurmagomedov, who made it 8 straight wins in the UFC, extending his undefeated professional record to 24-0 as he secured a 3rd round submission win over Johnson. As if the win, which included some brutal ground and pound shots from ‘The Eagle’ wasn’t enough, footage from the ‘UFC 205: The Thrill and Agony’ preview shows Nurmagomedov so confident and dominant in the fight that he begins to talk trash to Johnson while landing his ground and pound shots, saying: “You have to give up” before then turning to UFC President Dana White while still landing strikes on Johnson, and saying “I need to fight for the title, you know this. I deserve it.”

While Yoel Romero is undeniably the #1 contender at middleweight following his vicious 3rd round KO of Chris Weidman this past weekend at UFC 205, Romero is also on the receiving end of quite a bit of criticism given his controversial mid-fight antics. The most notable situation came back in 2014, when Romero was nearly finished by Kennedy at the end of the 2nd round of their UFC 178 fight. Between the second and third rounds, Romero and his corner engaged in several blatantly obvious acts to allow him more time to recover before the start of the third round, ultimately buying ‘Soldier Of God’ an extra minute on the stool. When the third round started, Romero went out and TKOd Kennedy just 58 seconds into the round.

‘Platinum’ Mike Perry has been the talk of the MMA community for the past several months. Ahead of his UFC debut, a welterweight scrap with Hyun Gyu Lim at UFC 202, Perry made headlines for his weigh-in antics, high-fiving ring girls as he walked on stage, before then faking Lim out with a handshake. When the pair stepped in the Octagon however, it took just over half a round for Perry to TKO Lim, and earn himself his first UFC victory.

This past weekend at UFC 205 in New York, top ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmgomedov continued his undefeated streak as he scored a 3rd round submission win over Michael Johnson to extend his unbeaten streak to 24-0 as he cemented his place at the top of the UFC’s lightweight division. The fight was a particularly impressive one for Nurmagomedov, who dominated the fight from bell to bell with his elite level sambo, landing devastating ground and pound shots before ultimately submitting Johnson in the third round.

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has always been a strong opposer of PEDs in MMA. When it comes to the topic, ‘The Count’ is never afraid to speak his mind on the matter, frequently throwing shade at fighters, especially ones he has fought, who have failed drug tests. On the heels of Yoel Romero’s phenomenal UFC 205 win over Chris Weidman this past Saturday, Bisping wants Romero to be drug tested once per week leading up to their fight given that he has failed a drug test in the past. With that being said, Romero’s failed drug test was deemed the result of tainted supplements, and resulted in only a brief suspension.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley joined host Chris Taylor on BJPENN.com’s Rapid Fire segment where he discussed his UFC 205 “fight of the night” title bout with Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. The epic five-round war between ‘T-Wood’ and ‘Wonderboy’ was declared a 47-47 draw by two of the three judges in attendance, with the third judge awarding ‘T-Wood’ the decision by a score of 48-47.

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson likely regrets letting his emotions get the best of him. “Big County” has been suspended for nine months by the Brazilian Superior Justice Court of MMA (STJDMMA) for assault and unethical behavior, according to a report from MMA Fighting. In addition to the suspension, Nelson was also fined $24,000 and the suspension is retroactive to September 29.

Tyron Woodley missed out on an opportunity that most fighters in the UFC will never get. The welterweight champion gave up his post-fight photoshoot with his championship belt after retaining the title against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in a majority draw judge’s decision at UFC 205. Woodley gave up the photo opportunity after letting the UFC use his belt to lend to Conor McGregor to have for his historic moment.

Earlier this year, former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida was pencilled in for a middleweight bout with the now-retired Dan Henderson. The fight, which was scheduled for April’s UFC on Fox 19 card, would have been a rematch of a slow 2013 bout, which saw Machida walk away with split decision win. Regrettably, Machida was pulled from this April rematch when he was flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for the steroid 7-keto-dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which increases metabolism and weight loss and curbs the effects of aging.
