Dana White on Donald Cerrone and the MMAAA: The guy is going to make $1.3 million from fighting this year

Russell Ess - December 9, 2016

With the five famous fighters that were a part of the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association announcement last week, UFC President Dana White has said that “fighters can go out and do what they want to do — they are all grown men.” However, White did state that he was surprised to see Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone as one of the five fighters standing as a part of the association, especially after White helped him out with a legal situation where White paid for Cerrone’s attorney out of his own pocket. White was a guest on Tim & Sid on Sportsnet and commented on Cerrone’s involvement with the MMAAA and the conversation that he had with Cerrone following the announcement of the association.

Tyron Woodley calls out Nick Diaz for UFC 209

bjpenndotcom - December 9, 2016

Back in July, ‘The Chosen One’ Tyron Woodley picked up the biggest win of his MMA career as he knocked out reigning UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler in the first round of their UFC 201 main event scrap to claim the UFC welterweight championship. Following the win, Woodley sparked some controversy as he shut down welterweight #1 contender Stephen Thompson on the Fox Sports 1 post-fight show, opting to call out former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre, and MMA veteran Nick Diaz. Diaz, who was still suspended at the time of the callout, was ineligible to fight due to not paying his fine with the NSAC.

Dana White on Anthony Pettis' weigh-in miss: 'He's too old and he's too big' to make 145

Tom Taylor - December 9, 2016

On Friday morning, we learned that former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis had missed weight for his UFC 206 interim featherweight title fight with Max Holloway. Though this weigh-in miss will thankfully not force the cancellation of their bout, it will nix Pettis’ chances of winning interim featherweight gold. Holloway will still be crowned interim champion with a win, but Pettis will not. Needless to say, this was a disappointing twist for fight fans. Perhaps nobody was more disappointed by the news, however, than UFC President Dana White, who has been bending over backwards trying to keep the UFC 206 lineup from falling apart.

Doo Ho Choi on two-year South Korean military service: I'm trying not to think about it

Tom Taylor - December 9, 2016

On Saturday night, on the main card of UFC 206, South Korean featherweight prospect Doo Ho Choi will face the toughest test of his career in Cub Swanson. If he’s able to pass this test, he’ll move to 4-0 in the UFC’s crowded featherweight division, and emerge as a legitimate title contender. Unfortunately, there’s a bit of a cloud hanging over Choi’s rapid rise up the featherweight ranks: he could soon be forced out of action to partake in two years of mandatory military service.

John Kavanagh sounds off on Anthony Pettis missing weight

bjpenndotcom - December 9, 2016

Friday morning, unfortunate news surfaced that former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis had missed weight for his scheduled UFC 206 interim featherweight title fight with Max Holloway. Pettis, who missed weight by three pounds for the event, is no longer eligible to win the interim featherweight championship in the fight, and also forfeited 20% of his purse to Holloway. This of course stirred up quite a bit of controversy given that former UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was forced to relinquish his featherweight championship in order for the UFC to make the fight between Holloway and Pettis an interim featherweight championship fight, with Jose Aldo subsequently being promoted to the undisputed featherweight champion.

After being knocked out by Conor McGregor in just 13 seconds at UFC 194, Aldo hoped for an immediate rematch with the Irish superstar, in hopes of reclaiming his featherweight championship. Max Holloway not happy with fighters ruining his good time

bjpenndotcom - December 9, 2016

Friday morning, unfortunate news surfaced that former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis had missed weight for his UFC 206 interim featherweight title fight with Max Holloway Saturday night in the main event of the Toronto-based card. Unfortunately, Pettis missing weight by three pounds forced the UFC to make it so that the fight would only be an interim featherweight title fight for Holloway. For ‘Showtime’ on the other hand, the fight would be just another fight, his second at featherweight. In addition, Pettis was forced to give up 20% of his purse to Holloway.

BREAKING! Anthony Pettis misses weight for UFC 206 title fight

Tom Taylor - December 9, 2016

When Daniel Cormier was forced to withdraw from his planned light heavyweight title fight with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, it left Saturday night’s UFC 206 without a main event. To rectify this situation, the UFC enacted a multi-part plan: First, they stripped Conor McGregor of the UFC featherweight title. Then they promoted interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo to undisputed champion. Finally they announced that UFC 206’s co-main event, a featherweight fight between Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis, had been promoted to the main event spot, where it would crown the new interim featherweight champion. It was a fairly transparent effort to give fans in Toronto the title fight they wanted, and not everybody was impressed by it. In the end, however, this planned interim featherweight title fight will not actually occur, as Anthony Pettis failed to make the featherweight division’s 145-pound weight limit.
