Fight odds: Yoel Romero opens as a big favorite over Michael Bisping

Russell Ess - May 15, 2017

UFC President Dana White shocked quite a few people announcing that the UFC middleweight title fight between champion Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre is no longer happening. White added that Yoel Romero is now getting the shot against Bisping and the opening odds are not favoring the current champion. According to the Sportsbook odds via Best Fight Odds, Romero is heavily favored in the UFC middleweight title fight at -350 while Bisping is at +270. For those unfamiliar with betting odds, you would have to wager $350 on Romero to win $100 or $100 on Bisping to win $270.

Tom Taylor - May 15, 2017

This win impressed the hell out of most members of the MMA community – but not surging contender Francis Ngannou. Michael Bisping appears in court over $349k contract dispute with former gym

Tom Taylor - May 15, 2017

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is currently involved in a pretty significant fight outside the confines of the UFC’s Octagon. The champ is embroiled in a lawsuit with his former gym, Wolfslair, and the gym’s head honcho, Anthony McGann. McGann also served as Bisping’s manager for many years. According to the UK’s Daily Star, this ordeal stems from a contract Bisping signed shortly before he appeared on the UFC’s long-running reality show The Ultimate Fighter back in 2005. Apparently, McGann believes Bisping still owes him $349,000 in fees stemming from this six-year contract.

Despite lopsided win, Stipe Miocic didn't want to hurt Junior Dos Santos

Tom Taylor - May 15, 2017

Over the weekend, in the main event of the stacked UFC 211, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic made the second defense of his title with a crushing, first-round TKO of Junior Dos Santos. This win also served as a bit of vengeance for Miocic, who gave up a close decision to Dos Santos when they first met back in 2014. While revenge was certainly part of Miocic’s mission leading into this title fight, he and Dos Santos actually got along very well. As such, Miocic says he was hesitant to punish his foe any more than necessary. The champ explained this feeling at the UFC 211 post-fight press conference.

Tom Taylor - May 15, 2017

Last Saturday night, on the main card of an action-packed UFC 211, Demian Maia met Jorge Masvidal in what appeared to be a welterweight number one contender fight. Though Masvidal certainly had his moments, Maia would win this fight, relying on his legendary grappling en route to a split decision victory. With this win, Maia seems to have earned himself a shot at reigning UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley. While there’s not a welterweight alive who doesn’t grasp the dangers Maia poses on the mat, Woodley believes Maia will have a difficult time taking him down and taking his back. The champ gave his thoughts on the matchup on FS1’s UFC 211 post fight show.

Unsurprisingly, this outcome did not go over well with Danis, who momentarily disappeared from the cage post-fight, but ultimately returned to address the crowd.

Demian Maia will not sell out to earn a title shot

Tom Taylor - May 14, 2017

Last night, on the main card of UFC 211, Brazilian grappling whiz Demian Maia picked up a decision win over Jorge Masvidal, seemingly clinching a shot at welterweight champ Tyron Woodley in the process. In the current era of money fights, however, it’s possible that Maia’s spot in line is usurped by a bigger name, such as Nick Diaz, or even Georges St-Pierre. Though a little bit of trash talk with Woodley could go a long way in ensuring he gets the next title shot, Maia says comporting himself in this way would be contrary to his principles. The streaking welterweight star will not be selling out to earn his shot at gold.
