There are, however, skeptics out there who believe McGregor’s early success was simply due to Mayweather’s strategy – a clever ploy to get McGregor’s timing down and simultaneously let him punch himself out. In the opinion of Holly Holm, however, who is a former champion in both the UFC and the boxing ring, this is a ridiculous suggestion. Holm broke it down on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor’s Saturday night showdown is expected to decimate all previous combat sports pay-per-view records, but not everyone who watched paid to do so. Illegally streaming sporting events is common practice, but the number of people who streamed this Mayweather vs McGregor blockbuster is pretty incredible. According to content-security vendor Irdeto (via Variety), illegal steams of the broadcast were hosted by 239 sources. These streams were viewed by a baffling 2.93 million people worldwide. According to Irdeto, 67 of the illegal streams provided online came from well-known streaming sites, though other streams were hosted by sites like Facebook, YouTube, Periscope and Twitch.

According to a release from the UFC, all-action lightweight veteran Joe Lauzon will return to the Octagon when the UFC touches down in Norfolk, VA on November 11. His opponent will be a grizzled veteran of a similar vintage – and with a similar propensity for wild fights – Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. Given that Lauzon and Guida own a combined 13 Fight of the Night awards, there seems to be a high chance this one leaves fans thrilled. When we last saw Lauzon in action, he lost a close decision to rising Scottish talent Stevie Ray. This loss, meanwhile, was preceded by an unfortunately blatant judging blunder opposite Marcin Held – a decision win even Lauzon admitted he shouldn’t have received. This loss, finally, was preceded by a split loss to Jim Miller, and a TKO defeat of Diego Sanchez. He’s 27-13 in sum.

UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor is a rich, rich man. Though he was already a multimillionaire thanks to his efforts in the Octagon, his Saturday night boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr earned him a disclosed purse of $30 million – and he’s expected to clear $100 million once pay-per-view buys are factored in. Based on his comments at the event’s post-fight press conference, McGregor is keen to make sure he collects every penny he’s owed for his battle with Mayweather, which he lost via 10th-round TKO.

The test in question was taken the day of the UFC 214 weigh ins (July 28). Instead, the Irishman wilted under a torrent of 10th-round punches, losing by way of TKO as a result. As much as it was a disappointing night for McGregor, however, it was a momentous one for Mayweather. With this win, “Money” will now ride off into the sunset with a fantastic, 50-0 professional boxing record. Post-fight, Mayweather shared a brief encounter with McGregor’s biggest rival from the MMA sphere, Nate Diaz. Despite this loss, McGregor’s star appears to be higher than ever. The Irishman would seem to have options in both boxing and MMA, but in the opinion of his manager Audie Attar, MMA is the more likely outcome.

Unsurprisingly, he was very impressed. “This isn’t what he does,” White said at the post-fight press conference for Mayweather vs. McGregor (h/t MMAJunkie.com). “He’s a mixed martial artist, where he goes in and uses all of his weapons, and tonight he was only allowed to use his hands.”

It was not, however, a clean KO. McGregor, was never out cold. In the moments after this massive fight, McGregor suggested that the stoppage might have been a bit early, and that he might have able to bounce back if he’d been given more time.
