Over the weekend, in the co-main event of UFC 219, Dagestan’s Khabib Nurmagomedov improved to an insane 25-0 overall, bludgeoning Brazilian knockout artist Edson Barboza to a lopsided unanimous decision win. Pretty much everybody was impressed by Nurmagomedov’s insane win – but do not file UFC undisputed lightweight champion Conor McGregor into that group. On Monday afternoon, the Irish superstar took to Twitter with a brief reaction to Nurmagomedov’s win, referring to it as “dog shit.”

Last night, the UFC closed out the year 2017 with UFC 219, a stacked card that went down in the fight capital of Las Vegas, Nevada. In the main event of this anticipated PPV, UFC women’s featherweight queen Cris Cyborg attempted her first UFC title defense opposite former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. In advance of this fight, Holm was considered one of the toughest tests of Cyborg’s incredible career thus far, and as it turns out, these suspicions proved accurate. Despite Cyborg’s fight-ending power and vaunted aggression, Holm hung in there for five, fun rounds, even popping the champ with solid strikes of her own on a few occasions. In the eyes of some fans, she even won a few rounds. In the end, however, Cyborg’s patience, volume, aggression and cage control earned her a just unanimous decision win.

With this win, Nurmagomedov is now an unbelievable 25-0 overall. More importantly, he is the clear-cut, undeniable number-one-contender at lightweight, whether we’re discussing challengers for Conor McGregor‘s undisputed lightweight title or Tony Ferguson’s interim lightweight title. In fact, the three lightweight stars would now seem to have one of the most gripping three-way rivalries in the history of MMA.
