Shortly after Makwan Amirkhani and Jason Knight’s fantastic UFC Liverpool featherweight scrap, we got another wild fight in the featherweight division, as England’s Arnold Allen collided with Denmark’s Mads Burnell. The first round began with Burnell leading the dance on the feet, landing a surprising amount of volume, including a few nice body kicks. Then, when Allen began to find his range on the feet, Denmark’s Burnell completed the first takedown of the fight. Allen then muscled his way back to the feet, was taken down again, returned to the feet again, and completed a trip of his own as the first frame drew to a close.

A featherweight scrap between Makwan Amirkhani and Jason Knight took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night 130 main card from Liverpool, England. The first-round of the fight was nothing short of spectacular as both fighters scored knockdowns and came close to finishing the fight.

One of the most anticipated features of the UFC Liverpool main card was a featherweight scrap between “Mr. Finland” Makwan Amirkhani and Jason “The Kid” Knight. This fight lived up to all expectations, as the two featherweights gave as an absolutely thrilling scrap. Amirkhani started the first round very strong, cracking his foe repeatedly with a strong lead left, and trash-talking all the way through. As the round wore down, however, Knight dropped his foe not once, but twice, and closed out the round threatening with his vaunted submissions from the bottom.

The second bout of the UFC Liverpool main card occurred at welterweight, where Brazil’s Claudio Silva took on Canada’s Nordine Taleb. It was a dominant win for the Brazilian, who applied a face-crushing rear-naked choke in the first round, coaxing out the tap as a result.
Elias Theodorou is creating a "ring boy" calendar

Elias Theodorou, who picked up a nice decision win over Trevor Smith during the prelims of Sunday’s UFC Liverpool card, has recently been moonlighting as a “ring boy” for women’s MMA promotion Invicta Fighting Championship. Essentially, Theodorou’s gig with Invicta sees him fulfill the same role as the “ring girls” of Bellator or the UFC. Shortly after his big win in Liverpool, Theodorou announced that he’ll soon be giving other male fighters a chance to try their hands as ring boys — in a sense.

Yesterday afternoon, Darren Till missed weight for his UFC Liverpool headlining showdown with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, tipping the scales 3.5 pounds above the welterweight limit of 171 pounds. After a period of much confusion and speculation, we learned that the fight would go ahead as planned, so long as Till weighed in at less than 188 pounds at 1:00pm BST on Sunday. This, of course, meant that he would have to heavily control his rehydration process.

To make matters worse for the Stockton native is the fact that his accuser is claiming that he was ‘coked up’ while he allegedly choked and assaulted her.

Thankfully the UFC was able to convince Till’s opponent, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson (14-2-1 MMA), to continue on with the fight despite the Liverpool natives botched weight cut.

While he’s making no excuses, and seems quite ashamed, he did divulge that his cut was joggled by a family emergency.

The fight will go ahead as planned, with the stipulation that Till does not weigh any more than 188 pounds by 1:00pm BST tomorrow. Till will also surrender 30% of his purse to his foe. While reports suggest that Till’s botched weight cut is due, at least in part, to a family emergency, he’s receiving quite a bit of flack all the same. As you probably guessed, some of this flack came from the ever-outspoken Colby Covington, who will fight Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC interim welterweight title at UFC 225 this June 9.

Combate Americas withdraws offer to Yair Rodriguez, won't sign UFC veteran

When the UFC made the shocking decision to cut Yair Rodriguez earlier this month, the expectation was that he would find another home quite quickly — potentially with South American MMA powerhouse Combate Americas. Apparently, Combate Americas was initially interested in signing Rodriguez, and quickly offered him a deal that is said to be more lucrative than his last in the UFC. According to MMAMania, however, the promotion has since rescinded its offer.

Stephen Thompson, who holds the number-one spot in the UFC welterweight rankings, is confident that he’ll be too much for his UFC Liverpool opponent, eighth-ranked welterweight Darren Till. “That’s what I’m out there to prove to the fans and everybody around the world,” Thompson told Damon Martin of MMAWeekly. “There are levels to this. I’m going to go out there and I’m going to do work. You’re going to see the level of that No. 1 and No. 8. UFC’s giving him a chance so I know he’s going to be coming prepared. Anybody in the UFC has a chance to knock you out. So I’m not going to take this guy lightly.”
