Alexander Volkanovski stops Chad Mendes in thrilling scrap (highlights)

Tom Taylor - December 29, 2018

The main card of UFC 232, which went down on Saturday night inside The Forum in the Inglewood, California, was kicked off by a high-stakes featherweight showdown between three-time title challenger Chad Mendes, and surging Australian contender Alexander Volkanovski. The pair collided in hopes of establishing themselves as one of the next men in line for UFC featherweight king Max Holloway. To remind, this was a fight Volkanovski actually asked for after defeating Darren Elkins at UFC Boise earlier this year. It was an action-packed scrap while it lasted.

UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg faces a tough task in the co-main event of Saturday night’s UFC 232 card, as she is scheduled to defend her title opposite reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes. While the challenge ahead cannot be understated, Cris Cyborg at least has the support of many of her fellow fighters, and at least one Hollywood star.

On Saturday night, on the undercard of UFC 232 at the Forum in Inglewood, California, former UFC bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano moved up to the featherweight division for a showdown with former Invicta champion Megan Anderson. The two women collided in hopes of earning a shot at the winner of the UFC 232 main event, which pitted divisional champion Cris Cyborg against bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes. In the end, this fight ended rather strangely — and perhaps disastrously for Cat Zingano.

On the undercard of UFC 232, long-time UFC middleweight contender Uriah Hall was tasked with welcoming ferocious middleweight prospect Bevon Lewis to the Octagon. This fight did not begin well for Uriah Hall. In fact, the Ultimate Fighter veteran was probably down two rounds heading into the third. Thanks to a blistering, third-round punch, however, it didn’t matter.

The pair collide with the light heavyweight title, recently vacated by Daniel Cormier, on the line.

EXCLUSIVE | Din Thomas says if there's anyone who can beat Cris Cyborg, it's Amanda Nunes

Mike Pendleton - December 29, 2018

If anyone knows Amanda Nunes, it’s her friend Din Thomas, who coaches at American Top Team. Din Thomas isn’t afraid to be honest with his fighters and he doesn’t sugarcoat things when breaking down and evaluating their matchups and opponents. As Amanda Nunes prepares to face women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg, a woman that has been labeled unbeatable throughout her recent career, she finds herself in a role that Thomas says fits her best. That role, as an underdog, is the same one she filled when she headlined UFC 200 against Miesha Tate, when she became champion, and again when she faced UFC Hall Of Famer Ronda Rousey, who Nunes put away in the first minute at UFC 207.

Jon Jones explains why heavyweight rematch with Daniel Cormier won't be happening

Thomas Taylor - December 29, 2018

As Jon Jones gears up for his UFC 232 rematch with Alexander Gustafsson, many fans are wondering if we might see him rematch his arch rival Daniel Cormier in the New Year — perhaps even for the heavyweight belt. Eddie Alvarez makes impassioned argument against PED use after UFC 232 drama

Thomas Taylor - December 28, 2018

When it was announced that Jon Jones would be allowed to fight at UFC 232 in California, despite trace amounts of turinabol turning up on several of his recent drug tests, a number of his fellow fighters piped up, questioning the integrity of the UFC and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). After Daniel Cormier and Nate Diaz shared their thoughts on the issue, former UFC lightweight champ and current ONE Championship star Eddie Alvarez is now doing the same. Eddie Alvarez campaigned against PED-used in a multi-part speech on Twitter.

The card will be headlined by two title fights, as Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson rematch for the vacant light heavyweight title in the card’s main event, and UFC women’s featherweight champ Cris Cyborg attempts to defend her title against bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes in the co-main event. No matter how these two title fights go down, the four fighters involved in them are set to make some serious money for their work.

When the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to license Jon Jones for his UFC 232 rematch with Alexander Gustafsson, the UFC opted to move the entire UFC 232 card from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. This unprecedented move has caused headaches for some of the fighters on the UFC 232 bill, but Andrei Arlovski, who battles Walt Harris on the undercard, hasn’t been bothered by it. Instead, Arlovski actually feels thankful toward Dana White and the UFC for finding a way to keep the UFC 232 card intact.

Tom Taylor - December 28, 2018

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who returns to the Octagon to rematch Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 232 this Saturday, is adamant that his accomplishments should not be overshadowed by his latest drug testing drama. He reminds that the amount of the banned substance turinabol found in his system in a recent drug test was quite small, and that he’s worked incredibly hard throughout his entire martial arts career regardless.
