When Donald Cerrone caught word that tonight’s UFC 234 headliner had been cancelled he immediately reached out to UFC President Dana White offering his services. Shortly after the shocking news broke that reigning UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker had been forced out of tonight’s main event with Kelvin Gastelum due to an injury, “Cowboy” took to Twitter with the following message.

Earlier this afternoon the mixed martial arts world was left in shock after news broke that tonight’s UFC 234 main event had been cancelled. This evening’s main event was expected to feature reigning UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker taking on surging division contender Kelvin Gastelum.

Kelvin Gastelum was expected to challenge Robert Whittaker for the promotions middleweight championship in the headliner of tonight’s UFC 234 event in Australia. That all changed just hours ago, this after UFC President told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that Robert Whittaker had suffered an injury and would no longer be able to defend his title against Kevlin Gastelum at tonight’s highly anticipated UFC 234 event.

Back in January, UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov was finally punished for his role in the wild brawl that followed his UFC 229 victory over Conor McGregor. The Dagestani champion received a $500,000 fine and a nine-month suspension, which can be reduced to six months if he completes an anti-bullying PSA approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Nurmagomedov will not be partaking in the NSAC’s proposed PSA — he recently made his thoughts on that quite clear. Furthermore, the champ claims he plans to sit out until November, standing in solidarity with his teammates Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who were suspended for one year for their roles in the brawl.

Despite rumblings an agreement wouldn’t be reached, this Saturday’s UFC 234 card will air on DirecTV after all. That’s according to MMANews’ Damon Martin who notes that while the UFC has come to terms with DirecTV, they still need to sign a long term deal. DirecTV is the leader in pay-per-view distribution in the United States and is typically what would air in bars and restaurants. Prior to this agreement, the UFC was telling fans to purchase the pay-per View through UFC.tv, Amazon or in the Playstation or the XBOX store.
