Daniel Cormier breaks his silence: 'It might mean too much'
Russell Ess - August 14, 2017
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has not been heard from much since losing the belt to Jon Jones at UFC 214. Cormier was controversially interviewed in the Octagon by Joe Rogan and released a short statement on social media after the loss. However, on Monday, Cormier joined Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour and gave his first interview since UFC 214 and opened up on how he was feeling.
Coach defends Jon Jones' reluctance to fight Stipe Miocic
Tom Taylor - August 14, 2017
Over the last few weeks, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has expressed interest in a big-ticket money fight with former UFC heavyweight champ and WWE megastar Brock Lesnar. At the same time, Jones explained that a fight with Stipe Miocic, the actual heavyweight champ, doesn’t interest him quite as much: “I feel like if I was to take a fight at heavyweight, it would be against a person who I felt, and my coaches felt would be a perfect matchup for me,” Jon Jones said at the UFC 214 post-fight presser. “Right now Stipe (Miocic) is looking extremely impressive and I believe when you get an extremely talented big guy versus and extremely talented little guy, the cards are working in his favor. At the same time, I fear no man. But, I strike for a reason when I strike and I feel like right now Stipe is relatively unknown to the general public. So it wouldn’t be a real super-fight in my opinion. I feel like the MMA fans would be really excited about it. But the general public wouldn’t care about that fight. Most people really don’t know who he (Miocic) is, with all due respect to him. So if I am going to sacrifice being the smaller guy, I think that stylistically Brock Lesnar would be a fight that makes way more sense. And the payday would be tremendous! Plus what it would do for our sport would be tremendous. It would have a much greater effect (than a fight with Miocic). So for those reasons, a Brock Lesnar fight just makes way more sense for me.”
Mark Hunt Bashes 'Biggest Cheaters in the World' Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar
Justin Golightly - August 11, 2017
It is no secret that “The Super Samoan” Mark Hunt is not a fan of current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. The former heavyweight title challenger has ripped “The Beast” for pretty months following their fight in July of 2016. Hunt was defeated by the former UFC heavyweight champion at UFC 200 via unanimous decision. However, that bout was later overturned to a no-contest after it was revealed that Brock had tested positive for Clomiphene. Lesnar, who returned to the WWE following his scrap with Hunt, recently found his way back into mixed martial arts headlines. Or, should we say forced back into the MMA media world? All it took was a single answer on Jon Jones’ Facebook live to spark talk of a super fight between Jones and Lesnar. The fight has garnered some mixed reactions, but overall there seems to be a lot of excitement surrounding the potential scrap. Not from Mark Hunt though, who flamethrowed both of their names on Mike Swick’s “Quick Swick” podcast.

Russell Ess - August 10, 2017
Joe Rogan was upset with himself after he interviewed Daniel Cormier in the Octagon following his KO loss to Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 214. Rogan previously stated that he no longer wanted to interview fighters that just suffered a nasty KO because they were not in the right mental state to do so. However, Rogan went against his own policy in all the madness following the devastating outcome and interviewed Cormier in the Octagon, who couldn’t help but let his emotions pour out.

Tom Taylor - August 10, 2017
Shortly after his UFC 214 defeat of Daniel Cormier, which earned him the UFC light heavyweight title, Jon Jones began doubling down on his calls for a fight with former UFC heavyweight champ and long-time WWE superstar Brock Lesnar. “Man, it would be like a modern day David and Goliath situation,” Jones recently told Sway in the Morning of a potential battle with Lesnar. “This guy is a freak athlete. NCAA national wrestling champion. I mean he’s built like – he’s such a special athlete. I think a lot of people would assume that I would lose that fight and when you get an argument like that where people really don’t know who is going to win, that’s when the money is created. That’s when you get the main stream, general public wanting to tune into this freak show, right? The little guy versus this monster.”
Jon Jones discusses how he felt watching Daniel Cormier cry at UFC 214
Chris Taylor - August 9, 2017
The feud between UFC light heavyweight fighters Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier resulted in arguably the biggest rivalry in the history of mixed martial arts. That rivalry came to a head in the main event of last month’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, where Jones defeated his bitter rival (Cormier) via third-round knockout, thus reclaiming the UFC light heavyweight title which he had never really lost.

The Unstoppable Force That is Jon Jones Debuted 9 Years Ago
Justin Golightly - August 9, 2017
Do any of you remember in Ghostbusters when that demon possessed Louis Tully and he started spouting all that strange demi-god history? He warned that during the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants, a new form would be chosen for Gozer the Traveller. Well, that might as well have been Jon Jones. He’s a destroyer, simple as that. When he debuted in the UFC nine years ago today, our world would never be the same. We might have not known it then, but we sure as hell know it now. Aug9.2008
Stipe Miocic has a message for Jon Jones
Tom Taylor - August 8, 2017
In the buildup to and immediate fallout of his UFC 214 title fight with Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones has expressed real interest in a fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. The reason for this callout of Lesnar, Jones explained, is because he believes a fight with a superstar with Lesnar at heavyweight would be even more lucrative than a fight with reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. “I feel like if I was going to take a fight at heavyweight it would be against a person who me and my coaches feel would be a perfect matchup for me,” Jones told the media at the UFC 214 post fight press conference. “Right now, Stipe is looking extremely impressive. And I believe if you get an extremely talented big guy versus an extremely talented little guy, I mean, a lot of the cards are in his favor. At the same time, I fear no man. I strike for a reason when I strike.”

Jon Jones explains why he had kind things to say about Daniel Cormier after beating him at UFC 214
Russell Ess - August 7, 2017
Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have had one of the most bitter rivalries that the UFC has ever seen. However, following their second time fighting in the Octagon at UFC 214, Jones had his hand raised again winning both of their fights. Although a tough pill to swallow, Cormier had to admit in his post-fight Octagon interview that their rivalry was likely now just a thing of the past. Prior to Cormier having to come to terms with the idea that their rivalry was over, Jones took to the mic in the Octagon after knocking Cormier out in the third round of their rematch and had very kind things to say about his opponent. “Bones” made an appearance on Monday’s episode of “Good Morning America” and was asked by Michael Strahan on giving Cormier respect after everything they have been through.

It has been said time and time again that in the sport of mixed martial arts, you experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. UFC 214 displayed just that, especially in the main event light heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. Cormier went into the title fight rematch as the champion while Jones came in the challenger after coming off a year suspension after testing positive for banned substances.

Russell Ess - August 1, 2017
Jon Jones was able to get back the UFC light heavyweight championship title from Daniel Cormier on Saturday night, serving “DC” the first KO loss of his MMA career. Jones is the only man who has been able to fight Cormier in a professional mixed martial arts bout and come out the winner. Cormier went into the UFC 214 fight against Jones as the defending champion and earned the highest reported salary from the event with a guaranteed purse of $1 million. Jones’ reported salary from UFC 214 was $500,000. However, Malki Kawa who manages Jon Jones claims that the reported incomes don’t tell the full stories as far as earnings go.
VIDEO | Joe Rogan talks about violating his own idea by interviewing Daniel Cormier after being knocked out
Russell Ess - August 1, 2017
UFC commentator Joe Rogan has stated that he personally does not think it’s a good idea to interview fighters in the Octagon after they just had been knocked out. However, he went against his own belief following the UFC 214 main event on Saturday by interviewing Daniel Cormier in the Octagon after he was knocked out by Jon Jones in their title fight. Rogan made a public apology to Cormier and upset fans on social media following the fights and stated that it was entirely his fault and didn’t even realize he was screwing up until it happened. Rogan then took some time to explain the situation with Eddie Bravo on his Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
