Ilia Topuria reveals brother Alexsandre has signed with UFC: “He will be become a UFC world champion”
The brother of UFC featherweight contender Ilia Topuria has scored a UFC contract.
During an interview with ESPN, “El Matador” confirmed that Alexsandre Topuria is indeed a member of the UFC roster. Alexsandre has a pro record of 5-1. His lone defeat came against Ivo Ivanov back in 2015. At the age of 28, Alexsandre is hoping that he has entered the UFC at the perfect time.
Ilia Topuria certainly has confidence in his brother’s future with the top MMA promotion.
Ilia Topuria’s Brother Makes His Way To UFC Roster
In the aforementioned chat with ESPN ahead of UFC 298, Ilia expressed his belief that Alexsandre Topuria will make some serious waves inside the Octagon (h/t MMAJunkie).
“He will be become a UFC world champion, too,” Topuria said of his older brother. “He’s very good, very talented. He’s good everywhere: on the ground, wrestling, striking. Very good style. They’re going to enjoy his style.”
Ilia is expecting his brother to make his UFC debut shortly after the promotion’s upcoming pay-per-view event.
“After my fight – soon,” Topuria said. “Maybe one month after my fight. Something like that. He’s ready, trust me.”
Ilia Topuria will be challenging for Alexander Volkanovski’s UFC Featherweight Championship. It’ll be Ilia’s first crack at UFC gold. He’ll want to prevent Volkanovski from securing a sixth successful UFC featherweight title defense.
Ilia has garnered a ton of attention ahead of this weekend’s event. “El Matador” hasn’t been shy in sharing his belief that he will run through Volkanovski and anyone else in the 145-pound weight class. In fact, he’s already suggested a fight with Conor McGregor because he doesn’t feel any of the featherweight contenders will be able to give him a challenge.
