Jon Jones Explains Why He'd Rather Fight "Rumble" than "DC"

Tom Taylor - October 26, 2016

On December 10, in the main event of UFC 206, Daniel Cormier will defend the UFC light heavyweight title against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. As significant as this bout is, however, it will have a shadow cast over it by one man: former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Jones won the divisional crown in early 2011 with a third-round TKO of light heavyweight legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. From there, he cut through the division like a buzzsaw, fending off game challengers in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira and Cormier, experiencing only a few moments of adversity along the way. By the time he’d defended his title against Cormier, he stood at as not only the greatest light heavyweight ever, but also one of the greatest fighters ever – period.

Daniel Cormier compares Conor McGregor to 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin

bjpenndotcom - October 22, 2016

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is undoubtably one of the most polarizing figures in the MMA world due to his brash persona, as well as incredible volume of trash talk. While McGregor has been criticized for his constant trash talk of fighters, his fighting persona has brought an incredible amount of attention to the sport of MMA, aiding him in setting Pay-Per View records, and setting records for UFC events with the highest gate. Ahead of UFC 205, where McGregor has the chance to make history and become the first simultaneous 2-division UFC champion with a win over UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier believes McGregor is to the UFC, what ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was to the WWE.

Cormier will enter the bout having recently defeated middleweight great Anderson “The Spider” Silva in a last-minute, non-title light heavyweight showdown on the main card of UFC 200. Rumble, meanwhile, will enter the fight with three straight knockout victories behind him, having recently snuffed Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and most recently, former title challenger Glover Teixeira. Whoever emerges as the victor of this bout will stand out as the bona fide best light heavyweight currently competing in the UFC.

Daniel Cormier: Anthony Johnson gives up "when things get tough"

bjpenndotcom - October 12, 2016

UFC light heavyweight title contender Anthony Johnson is one of the most feared men on the entire UFC roster due to his the incredible one-punch knockout power that he possesses. Over the course of Johnson’s 27 fight professional career, Johnson has only gone the distance six times, winning every time. In addition, every single victory Johnson has earned in his UFC career, with the exception of two, have come by way of KO/TKO. Ahead of his UFC 206 light heavyweight title fight with champion Daniel Cormier, Johnson has been on a tear of the 205-pound division, going on a 3-fight win streak that saw him KO Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and most recently Glover Teixeira at UFC 202 in just 13 seconds.

Earlier this month, it was announced that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 206. The card is scheduled for December 10 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Unsurprisingly, this news went over very well with Canadian fight fans. It’s unlikely, however, that fans in The Great White North will be completely satisfied with UFC 206 if it doesn’t feature the comeback of Georges St-Pierre.

Daniel Cormier set to defend his UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 206 in Toronto

Russell Ess - October 5, 2016

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will return to the Octagon to defend his title at UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada. The event is scheduled to take place on December 10. Cormier made his announcement on Wednesday night’s “UFC Tonight” show on FOX Sports 1. Cormier is slated to face Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in another UFC light heavyweight title rematch. The two first met in the center of the Octagon at UFC 187 in May of 2015 where “DC” was able to submit Johnson by rear-naked choke in the third round, which earned Cormier the vacant UFC light heavyweight title after former champion Jon Jones was suspended after legal troubles with a hit-and-run car accident.

Daniel Cormier Vows to Stand and Bang with "Rumble" Johnson in Rematch

Tom Taylor - September 18, 2016

In May of 2015, Daniel Cormier and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson fought for the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. In the end, Cormier would use his Olympic-caliber wrestling to ground this fight and lock up a fight-winning rear-naked choke in the third round. Yet the Olympian very nearly didn’t escape the first round, as he was nearly finished by a rocket-fuelled Rumble punch just moments after the bout began. Today, Cormier has been elevated from interim champion to undisputed champion, and Rumble has bounced back from his loss to Cormier with three straight knockout wins. As such, a title rematch between the two light heavyweights appears to be imminent.

Daniel Cormier on Jones' Interim Title: Take That Freakin' Belt off of Him

Jon Jones is the greatest light heavyweight on the world – but he is not the light heavyweight champion. Instead, Jones’ many recent legal woes resulted in his being stripped of the UFC light heavyweight title, which was claimed by long-time rival Daniel Cormier in his stead. Earlier this year, of course, it looked like Jones was ready to turn things around.
