UFC 210 – Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson 2: Official Fight Card and Start Time

On April 8, the UFC will take over Buffalo, New York’s Key Arena with UFC 210. In the main event, we’ll see UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier attempt to defend his title against an old foe in Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. The co-main event, meanwhile, will see former middleweight champion Chris Weidman attempt to get back on track against long-time Dutch contender Gegard Mousasi.

The fight has been targeted on several occasions in the past, however injuries have delayed this highly anticipated rematch. On April 8, the UFC will touch down in Buffalo, New York with UFC 210. In the card’s main event, we’ll see light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier attempt to defend his title against an old foe in Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Cormier and Rumble first met back in 2015. On that night, Rumble nearly took Cormier’s head off in the first round, but was ultimately overwhelmed by his foe’s wrestling and cardio, and submitted with a rear-naked choke in the third round. Given Rumble’s incredible punching power, however, the outcome of this fight could well be different. As such, The MMA community seems to be divided when it comes to predictions for this battle.

If all goes Cormier’s way, he’ll then attempt to defend his title against Jon Jones, a troubled former champion and his biggest rival. Beyond bouts with Rumble and Jones, however, it’s hard to say who might next contend for the UFC light heavyweight crown. This, unsurprisingly, is something Cormier has considered. On a recent episode of MMAJunkie Radio, Cormier discussed the top-heavy nature of the light heavyweight division, and outlined his immediate plans as champion.

In just over one month, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will step into the Octagon against Anthony Johnson for a highly anticipated rematch for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 210. The first time the pair met in the Octagon, they were fighting for Jon Jones vacant light heavyweight title two years ago, after Cormier stepped in for Jones on short notice due to his infamous hit and run incident. Unfortunately, while Cormier and Johnson were booked for a rematch before, Cormier was forced out of the fight with a torn adductor in his groin, and thus the bout was rescheduled for April 8th. In advance of this fight, Rumble has assured that he’ll knock Cormier out. The Blackzilians veteran very nearly did so in their first fight, but was ultimately submitted by Cormier instead.

With Mike Goldberg no longer a part of the UFC commentating team, Joe Rogan will have some different company for the UFC 208 pay-per-view event taking place on February 11, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Goldberg commentated his last UFC event with Rogan at UFC 207 in December where Amanda Nunes beat Ronda Rousey in their UFC women’s bantamweight title fight main event.

At UFC 210, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will step into the Octagon in hopes of defending his title for the second time when he faces streaking contender Anthony Johnson in a highly anticipated rematch. This isn’t the first time the pair have met in the Octagon. After Jon Jones was pulled from his fight with Anthony Johnson for his infamous hit-and-run incident, the UFC replaced Jones with Cormier and made the fight for the vacant light heavyweight title. Cormier of course won the fight via submission, claiming the vacant light heavyweight title in the process. Since then, Johnson has rattled off four straight wins to earn himself another crack at the light heavyweight belt once again.

The fight served as Rousey’s first fight since losing the bantamweight strap to Holly Holm over a year prior at UFC 193, where she tasted defeat for the first time in her professional career.

In January of 2015, an undefeated Daniel Cormier challenged his hated rival Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title. Though he put up an admirable fight against the seemingly unbeatable Jones, he would ultimately lose this fight by unanimous decision. In the two years since, Cormier and Jones have experienced very different trajectories. Jones was stripped of the light heavyweight title for a laundry list of legal troubles, and later suspended for a brush with the United States Anti-Doping Agency. Cormier, meanwhile, usurped the light heavyweight throne in Jones’ stead, winning it in a fight with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, and defending it in an unforgettable war with Alexander Gustafsson.

Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson is official! Wednesday evening, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier announced via UFC Tonight that he would be stepping into the Octagon on April 8th in Buffalo, New York to square off against top ranked light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson. The fight is expected to headline the event, and will mark the first time the UFC has been in Buffalo, New York in over 20 years, with the last event they hosted there being UFC 7 in 1995.

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former UFC pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones have a very long and very public feud dating back several years. While the men have been booked to fight numerous times, they have only stepped into the Octagon once, where Jones emerged victorious. After their UFC 200 scrap in July fell through just 48 hours before the men were set to step into the Octagon, Jones was handed a one-year suspension, keeping him sidelined until July of 2017. With that being said, Cormier is still looking for a Jon Jones rematch.

While UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and top ranked bantamweight Cody Garbrandt aren’t scheduled to share the Octagon until December 30th, the pair nearly had their fight for Cruz’s bantamweight title backstage at UFC 202 back in August. According to UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, Cruz and Garbrandt came face-to-face backstage, and got in each others faces as tensions continued to rise before they were officially scheduled to fight at UFC 207. When no one stepped between the two men to break things up before they got out of hand, DC leapt into action and prevented tensions from reaching a boiling point.

Earlier this month, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was set to fight top ranked light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 206. The fight was not only set to be a highly anticipated rematch, but would also serve as Cormier’s second title defense. Unfortunately, several weeks before the fight, Cormier was forced to pull out of the fight with a torn adductor in his groin, and as a result the fight was scrapped. The initial timetable for Cormier’s return, indicated that the champ could be making his return in spring of 2017, however there had been no official word from the champ himself on what course of action he would take to recover from the injury.
