Former UFC star Colby Covington didn’t hold back on his former teammate Dustin Poirier’s recent arrest for public intoxication.

Former UFC superstar Dustin Poirier was arrested in Georgia on Sunday night on a ‘public drunk’ misdemeanor charge. Poirier was released on bond and now faces up to a year in jail and/or a hefty fine if convicted.

Less than a year since Poirier’s UFC finale at UFC 318 against Max Holloway, the former interim UFC titleholder was arrested for public intoxication in an extremely rare misstep outside of fighting. In recent months, Poirier has repeatedly explained how much he misses fighting, even going as far as to admit that ‘some days aren’t great’ without the thrill of training.

As of this writing, details surrounding Poirier’s arrest haven’t been made public. Poirier recently broke his social media silence to promise he’s ‘working on himself’.

Many Mixed Martial Arts fans and pundits were surprised and concerned with Poirier after the news of his arrest became public. Poirier’s former teammate, former title challenger Colby Covington, used the arrest to taunt his former teammate-turned enemy.

In a recent tweet, Covington reacted to Poirier’s first run-in with the law.

“Nothing says role model and family man like being arrested for public intoxication at 37 years old at 6:38 p.m… on Father’s Day,” Covington said of Poirier.

“Hit me up when you get out of the clink [Dustin] and I’ll send some RAB Zero to the father of the year.”

As of this writing, Poirier hasn’t responded to Covington’s taunts.

After initially apologizing to Poirier in 2020 after a foul-mouthed callout, things quickly took a turn for the worse between Covington and his former training partner. After defeating Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272, Covington called out Poirier for a fight, but a matchup in the Octagon never came to fruition.

Covington retired from Mixed Martial Arts earlier this year after a long hiatus stemming from a loss to Joaquin Buckley in December 2024.
