This Saturday, former WWE champion CM Punk will make his highly anticipated MMA debut when he steps into the Octagon to fight Mickey Gall on the main card of UFC 203.

CM Punk Q&A

Ahead of the fight, Punk has been the subject of much criticism following the airing of ‘The Evolution of Punk’ on Fox Sports 1. The mini docu-series gave fans an inside look at Punk’s journey the time he began training full-time at Roufusport in Milwaukee, to his UFC debut this Saturday.

Prior to the fight, Punk’s coach Duke Roufus appeared on SiriusXM to discuss the gameplan for keeping his pupil as much of an enigma as possible leading up to the fight:

“It’s way old (The ‘Evolution of Punk’ footage). He’s a different cat. I purposely at the open workouts yesterday didn’t do any striking with him. I’m coming in with a trojan horse. You don’t know what he can do, that’s the awesome thing about it. We know what Mickey can do, but we don’t know what Punk can do.”

With all that being said, footage of Punk at an open workout media event several weeks ago surfaced. In that footage, viewers can see Punk working on his striking through drills, and even some light sparring.

That footage had fans talking, with many of them expressing concern for Punk’s safety going into the fight given the fact that Gall has shown that he has some impressive skills inside the cage.
