The victory served at Miocic’s fifth in a row, as he had previously scored finishes over Mark Hunt, Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem.

To close out 2016, former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez looked to build momentum on his UFC 200 win over Travis Browne, which returned him to the win column following his UFC 188 loss to Fabricio Werdum. Velasquez was set to step into the Octagon for a rematch with Werdum, to determine the heavyweight #1 contender, however during the course of fight week, Velasquez’ back injury raised some questions, which resulted in the NSAC pulling him from the fight after determining that he was unfit to fight.

For most of December, former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum expected to close out 2016 by rematching a fellow former champ in Cain Velasquez. Unfortunately for everyone involved, however, Velasquez was forced out of this anticipated heavyweight showdown with a back injury. Though there was a brief search for a replacement opponent, Werdum was ultimately left without a fight.

Cain Velasquez undergoes successful surgery

Late last month, former UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez was forced out of a planned rematch with Fabricio Werdum with a back injury. Velasquez has now undergone a successful surgery to correct that injury. News of Velasquez’s successful surgery comes from Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, who spoke with Velasquez’s coach, Javier Mendez.

Unfortunate news surfaced this week that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez had been forced out of his scheduled UFC 207 rematch with Fabricio Werdum this Friday. While the fight was expected to see one man crowned the heavyweight #1 contender, Velasquez was pulled from the fight after it was determined that he was medically unfit to fight due to a back injury he dealt with throughout training camp. Leading up to the bout, Velasquez was very open about the fact that throughout training camp, he used CBD Oil to manage his pain from an injury which would require back surgery just days after his UFC 207 scrap with Werdum.

As Santa Clause geared up for another trip around the planet, we learned that the former heavyweight champion had been pulled from his planned UFC 207 bout with fellow former champ and recent foil Fabricio Werdum. In the buildup to his planned bout with Werdum, Velasquez made no secret of the fact that he was dealing with an injury. In fact, Velasquez even admitted that he had back surgery scheduled for mere days after the fight. Despite this injury, however, he claimed that he had every intention of fighting, and apparently, even got the OK from his doctor to do so.

Unfortunate news surfaced Saturday afternoon that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez had been pulled from his upcoming UFC 207 scrap with Fabricio Werdum just days before the fight due to medical reasons. While Velasquez was quick to refute the reports, stating that as far as he knew, the fight was still on, NSAC director Bob Bennett has now stated on record that Velasquez is medically suspended.

In numerous interviews, Velasquez discussed the fact that he was scheduled for surgery just 5 days after his fight with Werdum, and that he had been using CBD Oil to get through his training camp and help him with pain from the injury.
