Cain Velasquez ready to "beat Werdum's ass"

At UFC 207 on December 30th, former UFC heavyweight champions Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum will square off in a highly anticipated heavyweight #1 contender fight. In addition to a title fight with Stipe Miocic being on the line, the fight will give Velasquez a chance to avenge his UFC 188 loss to Werdum. In that fight, the pair met in the main event of UFC 188 in Mexico City, where Werdum’s cardio proved to be the X-factor as he submitted Velasquez in the third round, and unified the UFC heavyweight championship and the interim heavyweight championship.

During his training camp for the fight, Velasquez revealed that he was already scheduled to undergo back surgery just five days after the fight. With that being said, no one could have guessed the severity of the situation.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is currently gearing up for his UFC 207 scrap with Fabricio Werdum, which will not only serve as Velasquez’ shot at redemption at ‘Vai Calvao’, but also as the heavyweight #1 contender fight. Ahead of the fight, both men are coming off wins, which returned them to the win column. Werdum’s win came in October at UFC 203, where he defeated Travis Browne via unanimous decision. Velasquez’ win on the other hand came as a UFC 200 TKO win over Travis Browne.

When Cain Velasquez returned to the Octagon and defeated Junior dos Santos at UFC 155 to reclaim the UFC heavyweight championship, many believed that Velasquez would reign as the UFC’s heavyweight champion for quite some time. Unfortunately for Velasquez, he defended the belt twice before meeting Fabricio Werdum in the Octagon at UFC 188. Werdum dominated the fight, as Velasquez quickly gassed out, and ultimately picked up a submission win to claim the UFC heavyweight championship.

There is perhaps nobody more excited for this bout, however, than former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. After all, he’s likely to fight the winner.
