Video | Soccer match in Turkey ends in insane fan brawl

A soccer match between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor erupted into absolute chaos in Turkey this past weekend.

For those of you who don’t know, soccer (aka association football) plays host to some of the most passionate sports fans in the world. They will live and die for their club, that’s especially true in nations like Turkey.

These countries view soccer aka football as their national sport, and rightfully so. The drama that it brings is unlike anything else, and it’s easily the most popular sport on the planet.

Alas, in last weekend’s encounter between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce, we saw the ugly side of the beautiful game as Trabzonspor fans rushed the pitch to attack members of the Fenerbahce staff and squad.

Ugly scenes in Turkey

Following Fenerbahce’s 3-2 victory away from home, they celebrated on the pitch following an intense and gruelling battle. That seemed to anger the losing side’s supporters, leading to many of them storming onto the pitch in an attempt to attack opposition players. A few of Fenerbahce’s finest opted to fight back when challenged, with security eventually managing to get control of the situation.

As you can imagine, this isn’t the kind of thing that anyone wants to see in the world of sport – but unfortunately, scenes like this happen from time to time. In Turkey, they’re known to have unbelievably dedicated fans, but it goes without saying that things were taken too far this time around.

It remains to be seen what repercussions are going to be handed down, but you’d have to think the powers that be will want to make an example of those responsible.
