“It’s going to be part of my legacy, these injuries,” former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz said on a recent episode of Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “How many people go through life with problems? Life is no different from fighting and that’s why I love fighting so much…whether you play sport or not, athletes go through and build through adversity on a stage that the general public can connect to.” As humans, the arrival of setbacks, adversity and loss in our lives is virtually guaranteed. And while we often revere our favorite fighters to near god-like status, they are no different in their susceptibility to suffering than the rest of us.

The bout will headline the stacked RIZIN 14 card. In this bout, Nasukawa will not be allowed to throw kicks. He will, however, be able to punch with full enthusiasm, as a knockout victory for either party is apparently allowable under the bout’s ruleset.

Late last month, long-time boxing promotor Oscar De La Hoya promoted his first-ever MMA event under the Golden Boy MMA banner. The card was headlined by a light heavyweight battle between UFC Hall of Famers Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell, which the former won by first-round knockout. While this card was not the financial home run that Oscar De La Hoya and Tito Ortiz seemed to be expect it to be, De La Hoya says he plans to promote more MMA cards in the future. That being said, he plans to change his strategy.

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder fought an incredible fight against Tyson Fury. In fact, The American titleholder very nearly finished the resurgent British fighter in the 12th round, scoring a ring-shaking knockdown that would have left lesser men glued to the canvas for minutes. Miraculously, however, Fury was able to return to his feet and survive to the final bell, at which point the ring-side judges ruled the fight a draw.

Last Saturday night in Quebec City, Canadian boxer Adonis Stevenson was knocked out by Ukrainian challenger Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Unfortunately, this 11th-round knockout resulted in Stevenson being rushed to the hospital, apparently in “critical condition.” On Wednesday, le CHU de Québec-Université Laval, the Quebec hospital where Adonis Stevenson is being cared for, issued an update on the boxer’s situation.

Last weekend, resurgent Brit Tyson Fury stepped into the ring with ferocious champion Deontay Wilder to battle for the WBC heavyweight title. Not only did this fight go down as an instant classic, but it also looks like it was a definite financial success as well. According to a report from The Ring this Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury card is “expected to surpass 300,000 buys.” As The Ring’s report explains, that figure doesn’t include pay-per-view buys in the United Kingdom — of which there were certainly many — or digital purchases made on platforms such as Playstation 4.
