VIDEO | Amanda Nunes isn’t bothered by the Rousey favoritism in UFC 207 promos

On December 30, former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will make her first steps into the Octagon since she was knocked out cold by a Holly Holm head kick in November of 2015. She will do so in the main event of UFC 207, when she takes on the division’s current champion Amanda Nunes.

In the buildup to this massively anticipated event, the UFC has released a handful of awesome, hype-generating promos for it. All of these promos, however, share a common theme in the way they focus on the return of Rousey, one of the UFC’s biggest stars, and give little attention to Nunes, the division’s reigning queen.

In a recent interview with Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole of Fox Sports, Nunes was asked about the Rousey favoritism in the majority of the UFC 207 promos. If the champ is to be believed, this focus on Rousey is a nonissue.

“I’m ok with it,” she told Jay and Dan. “At the end of the day, I’m the champion. It’s the only thing that I look for in this sport. To be the champion, be the best, and I am. She can be famous, she can [have] all the promos, she can work for me. I’m completely ok. I’m ready to go, and nothing’s going to change what I’m going to do that day with her.”

Needless to say, Nunes is focused on the task at hand. She’ll enter her bout with Rousey on a four-fight streak, having defeated Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann, and Valentina Shevchenko before mauling Miesha Tate to win the divisional crown in July. Rousey, meanwhile, preceded her 2015 loss to Holm with six wins inside the UFC’s Octagon, none of which reached the judges’ scorecards.
