Last weekend, the UFC touched down in the Canadian combat sports hotspot of Edmonton, Alberta with UFC 215, a card that was badly rocked by fight cancellations, but ultimately fun all the same.
In the main event, we watched reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes defend her title with a close and extremely controversial split decision defeat of Kyrgyzstani challenger Valentina Shevchenko.
The co-main event of the evening, meanwhile, saw former UFC lightweight king Rafael dos Anjos move to 2-0 in the perilous UFC welterweight division, tapping out long-time contender Neil Magny with an arm triangle choke in round one.
Other highlights of the main card, finally, included an action-packed featherweight war between long-time contender Jeremy Stephens and former Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez, a big win courtesy of Henry Cejudo, who knocked out a fellow flyweight title challenger in Wilson Reis, and a dominant decision from Ilir Latifi over Tyson Pedro.
The undercard, finally, featured plenty of excitement of its own, as fighters like Ketlen Vieira, Rick Glenn, Arjan Bhullar and Kajan Johnson picked up big wins.
Now that UFC 215 is in the rear-view mirror, the promotion has released some awesome slow-motion footage from the event. Check that footage out in the video at the top of this post!
UFC 215 was originally expected to headlined by a flyweight title fight between champ Demetrious Johnson and challenger Ray Borg. Regrettably, Borg was forced out of this contest at the very last minute with an illness. This flyweight title fight is likely to be rescheduled for UFC 216 on October 7.
UFC 215 also lost a heavyweight tilt between former champ Junior dos Santos and surging contender Francis Ngannou, which was nixed when dos Santos was notified of a potential USADA violation.
