After Urijah Faber recently dropped a one sided decision to Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of UFC 199, ‘The California Kid’ was noncommittal about his future in the Octagon. Less than a month after the bout however, it was announced that Faber would be returning to the Octagon at UFC 203 on September 10th to fight Jimmie Rivera. Despite being 0-4 in title fights in the UFC, Faber is confident that he can earn another title shot inside the Octagon.

Following Urijah Faber’s UFC 199 unanimous decision loss to Dominick Cruz in June, the bantamweight veteran was noncommittal about his future in the sport. While Faber submitted Cruz in the pair’s first meeting, Cruz came out on top in their second bout, and at UFC 199, where he convincingly defeated Faber. Now that Faber has had over a week to digest the bout, he took to Instagram to reflect on how things played out after watching the fight for the first time.

While there is a new weigh-in procedure in California that gives fighters the opportunity to weigh-in throughout the morning in order to have more time to rehydrate prior to their fights Saturday night, they still have staredowns at the official weigh-ins. During the heated staredown before their UFC 199 fight tonight., Cruz and Faber talked some trash, however Faber doesn’t remember what he said because he actually blacked out. Saturday night in the co-main event of UFC 199, Dominick Cruz & Urijah Faber will have their highly anticipated trilogy fight for the bantamweight championship nearly a decade after the pair’s initial meeting in 2007. Ahead of the fight, the pair have traded verbal jabs back and forth, however ahead of weigh-ins on Friday, Faber took the offensive as he posted a photoshopped picture of he and Cruz to Instagram.

Unfortunate news broke earlier this week that UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn had been pulled from his scheduled UFC 199 scrap with Cole Miller on June 4th after voluntarily revealing that he used an IV back in March. While there hasn’t been any word in regards to whether or not Penn will be suspended for the infraction, he has remained adamant that this will not prevent his return to the Octagon.

The two will meet for the third time in their careers, with Faber winning their first meeting in the WEC and Cruz taking their second match in the UFC. With their long history, Faber says that he has noticed physical change in Cruz’s body and alludes that the new strict testing done by USADA will be a great advantage for himself.

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw was not very pleased when he caught wind that the UFC had booked a trilogy bout between Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz instead of granting him an immediate rematch with “The Dominator”. The former Team Alpha Male fighter, Dillashaw, says despite his recent rivalry with Urijah he will still be rooting for the “California Kid” against newly crowned champion Dominick Cruz at UFC 199.

Urijah Faber is currently gearing up for his UFC 199 trilogy fight with bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz on June 4th, however the MMA veteran is currently in Maui enjoying the beach. Coincidentally, Faber ran into UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos on the beach as well. Faber pointed out that dos Anjos was “hobbling” on one foot due to the broken foot which forced him out of his UFC 196 main event scrap with Conor McGregor.

Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber was one of those fighters. Unfortunately for the “California Kid”, former UFC lightweight challenger Nate Diaz ended up being the fighter selected to ‘fill the void’ for March’s UFC pay-per-view event.
