Usman Nurmagomedov blasts Justin Gaethje vs Paddy Pimblett: ‘Two drunk guys fighting’

Usman Nurmagomedov wasn’t exactly impressed by what he saw in the UFC 324 main event between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett.
Gaethje and Pimblett shared the Octagon inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in the headliner for UFC’s debut on Paramount+. Fans got a slugfest with Gaethje finding more success and battering “The Baddy” on his way to a unanimous decision win. While the interim UFC lightweight title fight was exciting, it wasn’t without its detractors.
Former UFC veteran Matt Brown was left feeling underwhelmed despite the crowd-pleasing moments. During an episode of “The Fighter vs. The Writer,” Brown argued that both men didn’t put their best foot forward in terms of showing new fans what an elite UFC star looks like.
Current PFL Lightweight Champion Usman Nurmagomedov was recently interviewed, and he had an interesting way of describing how the Gaethje vs. Pimblett fight ultimately transpired (via Islam Babadzhanov).
“I think it would’ve ended early,” Nurmagomedov said. “One hundred percent, against either of them. The way they fought, I don’t know. It looked like two drunk guys fighting.”
Nurmagomedov did have some praise for Gaethje, who is now a two-time interim UFC Lightweight Champion. As far as Pimblett goes, Nurmagomedov has never been sold.
“But credit to Justin,” Nurmagomedov said. “At 37, he did a really good job. I’ve never even considered Pimblett a top-10 fighter UFC fighter.”
Nurmagomedov is undefeated in his pro MMA career, and many believe he’s the top name who isn’t currently on the UFC roster. He’s coming off two classics against Paul Hughes. The PFL Lightweight Champion is scheduled to defend his gold against Alfie Davis on Feb. 7 in Dubai.
Gaethje is in line for a title unification bout against UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria. “El Matador” recently took to social media to suggest that he’s ready to return to the Octagon.
