Kamaru Usman hits back at Dricus du Plessis after recent UFC OKC booking claims

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman addressed Dricus du Plessis’ claims surrounding their recent UFC OKC negotiations.

One of the most anticipated fights of the summer features former UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis’ return to the Octagon against former welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman at UFC Oklahoma City on July 18th. After defeating welterweight Joaquin Buckley at UFC Atlanta last year, Usman opted to make the move to middleweight to potentially secure a title shot with a win over Du Plessis.

In the lead-up to UFC OKC, Du Plessis accused Usman of intentionally delaying the main event fight’s announcement, questioning the former UFC champion’s desire to fight. He called Usman ‘scared’ and accused him of signing on the dotted line solely for money.

It didn’t take long for Usman to hit back at Du Plessis’ recent taunts.

In a recent interview with Daniel Cormier, Usman responded to Du Plessis’ allegations ahead of UFC OKC.

“Here’s the thing – and the fans really know this…what possible MMA fan can see my name and say I’m scared?” Usman said.

“He can say whatever he wants to say. But he’s talking to the guy who flew across the world, six, seven days’ notice, to fight Khamzat. Fought across the world again to fight when Jorge Masvidal was coming off of the flying knee [vs. Ben Askren]. So to sit there and say I’m scared? Come on now.

“I will whoop anybody. Anybody can get it!” Usman continued. “I don’t discriminate with these hands.”

Du Plessis returns to the Octagon after falling to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319 last year. It was his first UFC loss after recent wins over Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland.
