Dustin Poirier thinks Josh Hokit made himself a star at UFC 327: “We’ve seen it time and time again”

Dustin Poirier believes Josh Hokit’s ability to walk the walk at UFC 327 has made him a star.
Much was made about Hokit’s antics before his memorable scrap with Curtis Blaydes this past Saturday. During the pre-fight media day session, Hokit dressed as a Mexican gangster and tried agitating UFC 327 headliners Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg.
Ultimately, Hokit’s unanimous decision win over Blaydes is what mattered. Hokit and Blaydes turned in an entertaining heavyweight bout that went the distance. Hokit was even able to secure a UFC Freedom 250 fight against Derrick Lewis in the aftermath.
During an edition of UFC’s “About Last Fight,” Poirier said he thinks Hokit has ascended to stardom after backing up his trash talk (via MMAJunkie).
“When stars start to align, you’ve seen it in Conor (McGregor), when you talk the talk and you walk the walk,” Poirier said. “You’ve seen it in ‘Suga’ Sean (O’Malley). You’ve seen Chael Sonnen. We’ve seen it time and time again where guys talk the talk and walk the walk, and (Hokit) just did it this week. He talked a big game and he went out there and put on one of the best heavyweight fights we’ve seen and got his hand raised. Good things happen, you become a star.”
UFC CEO Dana White told reporters that an extra spot on the Freedom 250 card opened up when POTUS Donald Trump questioned why Lewis wasn’t on the card. White and UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell were able to get Hokit to agree to the fight. Hokit had been on his way to the hospital when the bout was proposed to him.
