Conor McGregor admits his jumping kick at UFC 329 was ill-advised: “Noted and corrected”

Conor McGregor is taking the blame for being too aggressive in his return fight at UFC 329.
McGregor has insisted that he felt calm going into his first bout in five years, which is actually something his opponent Max Holloway agrees with. The “Notorious” one didn’t get to showcase what he had been working on, however, as he went for a leaping kick and ended up landing the wrong way on his right knee. McGregor couldn’t move around effectively, and the fight was stopped due to the injury just over one minute in.
Some, including former UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley, have called it the most disappointing moment in combat sports history. Responding to fans on his X account, McGregor said he shoulders the blame for getting a bit too jumpy having been outside of the Octagon for as long as he was.
“A foot too early for sure,” McGregor admitted. “Never going to work, I disagree. The eagerness/rush out of the gate is what 5 years out of the game will do. Noted and corrected. I’ll get it right. I’m getting closer, that is my mindset.”
While some questioned if McGregor would move on from facing Holloway a third time, the Irish star made it clear that he is focused on recovering and having a trilogy fight with “Blessed” when he’s ready to return. McGregor has said he should learn his diagnosis soon. While many have suspected a torn ACL, that hasn’t been confirmed at this time.
If McGregor has another lengthy recovery process ahead of him, then Holloway may start looking at other options to stay active. He has a spectacular knockout win over the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje, but Charles Oliveira is ahead of him on the pecking order after their March bout ended with “do Bronxs” taking the BMF title.
