Dricus Du Plessis plans to prove he’s still ‘the best in the world’ against Kamaru Usman at UFC Oklahoma City

Dricus Du Plessis is looking to remind everyone just how good he is at UFC Oklahoma City.

Du Plessis is set to headline UFC Oklahoma City on Saturday in a middleweight bout against former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. It’s an intriguing fight, and ahead of the bout, Du Plessis is looking to get back on track after losing his belt to Khamzat Chimaev last time out.

The South African was dominated by Chimaev to lose his title. So he’s looking to get back into the win column and prove he’s the best in the world.

“Firstly, just winning; that is very important,” Du Plessis said to UFC.com. “But winning in the way — if the fight is being fought, I don’t have a boring fight in me if we’re fighting, if we’re not trying to hold each other. Right now, I’ve figured out that not to be in that situation is my responsibility, and man, I know performance-wise I will be (locked in), and it’s about doing whatever it takes to get that victory.

“You’re as good as your last fight, and right now, I’m a loser, and I hate being a loser. I’m going out there not just to get that win. But to do it in a way that people say, ‘Holy shit! This man is the best in the world.’”

Dricus Du Plessis wants to make a statement

If Dricus Du Plessis can beat Kamaru Usman at UFC Oklahoma City, he will be right back in the title conversation at middleweight. And, it could lead to him facing Sean Strickland again, who he’s already 2-0 against. So the stakes are high for ‘DDP’ ahead of his bout against Usman.

“I have a lot of respect for Strickland. He’s a cool dude. He’s an absolute warrior in the Octagon. So I’ll grant him that one defense before he has to face me,” Du Plessis added.

Du Plessis enters UFC Oklahoma City with a record of 23-3. He defended his middleweight title twice, beating Israel Adesanya and Strickland.
