On Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 229, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his title with a dominant, fourth-round submission win over former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor. Unfortunately, that’s not where the violence ended. Moments after the fight ended, Khabib Nurmagomedov leapt over the cage and attacked Conor McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis, which sparked a massive brawl between his and McGregor’s teams.

On Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 229, former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor attempted to reclaim that latter title from reigning lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. This mission did not go as he planned. Although Conor McGregor enjoyed a strong third round against the seemingly unstoppable Khabib Nurmagomedov, the overarching theme was pure grappling dominance for the Russian champion. Nurmagomedov landed repeated takedowns throughout the fight, and ultimately made McGregor tap in the fourth-round with a rear-naked choke.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor weren’t the only two people to brawl in the fallout of UFC 229. Shortly after the main event fighters’ teams got into it in and around the Octagon, a handful of fans got into a violent brawl elsewhere inside the T-Mobile Arena, the host venue for the fight.

Tonight’s highly anticipated UFC 229 main event between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov left fight fans with a bitter taste in their mouths. The fight itself was highly entertaining. Tony Ferguson has been toting his UFC interim lightweight belt around with him all week — even though he no longer technically owns that title. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the undisputed lightweight champion, is surprisingly just fine with that. “When you fight like this, high-level fight, you have to believe you’re the champ, nobody can beat you,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said Thursday at the UFC 229 pre-fight press conference (transcript via MMAjunkie). “It’s OK. I’m OK about this.”
