MMA community reacts to Ronda Rousey's thrilling win at WrestleMania 34

Tom Taylor - April 9, 2018

Last night, amid the exciting WrestleMania 34 festivities, former UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey partook in her first WWE match, teaming up with fellow Olympian Kurt Angle to thrash HHH and Stephanie McMahon. Leading up to her WrestleMania debut, Rousey had throngs of doubters and naysayers, who felt she was destined to disappoint in the squared circle. In the end, however, she silenced these doubters in the most emphatic way possible, performing with dazzling speed, athleticism and charisma throughout her match.

Ronda Rousey feels she "owes a lot" to Conor McGregor

Tom Taylor - April 2, 2018

Last week, Ronda Rousey partook in a frenzied string of interviews to promote her upcoming match at WrestleMania 34. These interviews produced some pretty tense moments, particularly when she was asked about her former career as a mixed martial artist. That said, Rousey had no problem heaping praise on a fellow MMA superstar in Conor McGregor. Speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Rousey happily praised McGregor, and said that she feels him a lot for taking some of the pressure off her.

Ronda Rousey worried the UFC women's divisions wouldn't survive without her

Tom Taylor - March 29, 2018

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has now left the sport of MMA behind in favor of a career as a pro wrestler. For a time, however, she was reluctant to do so, as she worried the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division—which was essentially built for her—would dry up in her stead. Rousey discussed this feeling, and explained how it kept her in the sport for longer than she wanted, in a recent interview with ESPN.

Ronda Rousey deserves respect for finding meaning in her losses, and having the courage to move on

Christine Allen - March 27, 2018

“Every single loss feels like a piece of my soul has died. I’m never the same after a loss. For me, losing is second only to having a loved one die,” Ronda Rousey says in her memoir My Fight / Your Fight. Former UFC bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, continues to be criticized by many within the MMA community following her unofficial retirement from the fight game on foot of back to back defeats within The Octagon.

Tom Taylor - March 20, 2018

After a flawless, 12-0 start to her run as a professional mixed martial artist, Ronda Rousey‘s career was derailed by two brutal losses. The first came courtesy of Holly Holm, who put her down with a second-round head kick, while the second was dealt by Amanda Nunes, who put her away with punches in less than a minute.

VIDEO | Israel Adesanya Believes Ronda Rousey Should 'Get That Money and F-ck Everybody Else'

Justin Golightly - March 15, 2018

MMA is a revolving door of talent. When one person leaves, hundreds more are waiting to take their place. Despite logging in nearly 80 fights in kickboxing and boxing, Israel Adesanya is just starting his UFC career as Ronda Rousey moves on in her new WWE career. Adesanya is familiar with the bandwagon jumpers, but also smart enough to know that fickle fans will abandom him just like they’ve done to so many other UFC fighters. If the young prospect could give any advice to Rousey, it’s to not care what anyone thinks and just do her own thing. “[I’m] 100 percent [behind Ronda Rousey], you see the work those guys put in and people are so quick to forget [about Rousey’s other accomplishments]. I don’t buy into the whole fandom, I just think with people who are with me. People are so quick to forget how great Ronda was, how much of a pioneer she was in the game.”

Ronda Rousey updates on her future in MMA, and it doesn't sound promising

Tom Taylor - March 13, 2018

Ronda Rousey is now firmly embedded as a member of the WWE roster. That said, she never officially retired from MMA, which has given her fans hope that, perhaps one day, she will return to the cage. During an appearance on The Ellen Show this week, however, Rousey updated on her future in MMA, and it didn’t sound promising. Instead, she said a return to MMA is about as likely as a return to the Olympics, where she once medalled in judo.

We’re getting closer and closer to seeing Ronda Rousey do more than just hip toss Triple H in a WWE ring. After making her debut at the Royal Rumble, the organization has done a great job at hyping up her presence as their new superstar. Ronda Rousey's Next WWE Appearance is Booked for Elimination Chamber

Justin Golightly - February 13, 2018

Ronda Rousey shook up the world of professional wrestling when the move that had been teased for years finally came to fruition. She’s a WWE superstar now after making her debut at the Royal Rumble. However, any current fan of the promotion knows that there are two brands in the WWE for Rousey to align with. The final part of her signing was announced last night on Monday Night RAW by Kurt Angle that Rousey will be signing her RAW contract at WWE’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event later this month. “This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab; this is not a publicity stunt. When I first met with Triple H, I told him, ‘There are other things I can do with my time that’ll make way more money, but I won’t enjoy nearly as much.’ I don’t have words at all. I’m like — this is the most overstimulated I’ve ever been in my life and I’m just, like I’m still processing it.”

EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington Says He'll Follow in Ronda Rousey's Footsteps to WWE

Justin Golightly - February 2, 2018

The news is still everywhere. Former queen of the UFC Ronda Rousey is now the latest WWE superstar. She’s moved on to make big moves in another arena of sports entertainment. One UFC welterweight who isn’t a stranger to the theatrics of pro wrestling or the ring itself, is Colby Covington. He’s walked the ends of the Earth calling out Tyron Woodley, even on air at Impact Wrestling after he and American Top Team co-founder invaded the promotion with teammates. Not only does the controversial fighter support Rousey’s move, but wants to follow in her footsteps. “I think it was a great move for [Ronda Rousey]. She wasn’t gonna win anymore fights, so she’s gotta do something that she can win in, so maybe pro wrestling’s that. I think it was a great move. I think she’s done well for herself and she’s gonna make some good money over there. The thing is, I hope she don’t f-ck it up for the MMA fighters, because I’m the people following in those footsteps. I’ma be over there in WWE, taking the world title soon. I hope she doesn’t act all shy and do all that weird stuff, you know? She needs to be who she is and who she used to be in the UFC when she was the champ.”

UFC rankings update: Georges St-Pierre exits, Ronda Rousey stays

Tom Taylor - January 31, 2018

In the wake of last weekend’s UFC Charlotte card, the UFC has adjusted its official rankings. The biggest shakeup this time surrounds Former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre’s ejection from the middleweight rankings. Given that St-Pierre is not expected to fight again for quite some time – if ever – his ejection from the middleweight rankings makes some sense. Contrary to this logic, however, Ronda Rousey, who is now a full-time pro wrestler for WWE, is still ranking at women’s bantamweight. Why? Who knows…

Cris Cyborg Reacts to Ronda Rousey Joining the WWE, "She hasn’t overcome her MMA losses yet"

Drake Riggs - January 30, 2018

If there’s one female super fight that had fans intrigued more than any possible other, it was always Featherweight world champion, Cris Cyborg vs Bantamweight world champion, Ronda Rousey. The time has clearly passed for such a fight…as Cyborg continues to reign supreme in the UFC and Rousey has lost her title and now officially crossed over into the professional wrestling world. With such news comes reactions, and Rousey’s old rival shared her thoughts on the former Bantamweight queen’s new ventures when speaking to MMAFighting recently: “I believe that she will be happy in WWE, and it’s completely different from the reality of MMA. For an example, wins and losses are decided before the shows.
