Dana White adds optimism to Ronda Rousey vs. Amanda Nunes 2016 title fight

UFC superstar Ronda Rousey has not fought since losing for the first time in her professional mixed martial arts career, which happened at UFC 193 back in November 2015.

Holly Holm shocked the world when she dismantled Rousey in their fight and was able to become the first woman to beat Rousey in MMA, knocking out the once thought invisible women’s UFC bantamweight champion in the second round of their title fight.

While there has been a lot of talk and speculation on the future of “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey ever since she lost to Holm, recent reports suggest that her comeback may be coming up before the end of the year.

Rousey had expressed great interest in fighting in New York when MMA was legalized in the Big Apple earlier this year.

“It would definitely be a cool thing to stick on your resume, but I wouldn’t do it for that reason,” she told UFC.com. “It’s important because of the history. I want a tie to a historical place like this and I want to be remembered in a positive way. I’m from Los Angeles, where if something is 50 years old, they tear it down and build a new one. It’s not for my own vanity. It’s for a place in history. I don’t have a single picture of myself fighting in my house. I don’t have my belts, they’re hidden. I don’t like putting stuff out there, but I like fighting for a place in history.”

While many were expecting Rousey to return to the Octagon for the historic event in New York at UFC 205 in November, UFC President Dana White shot that event down for any hoping to see Ronda fight at Madison Square Garden this year.

On Sunday, BJPENN.COM reported that the UFC was targeting a UFC women’s bantamweight title fight between the current champion Amanda Nunes and Rousey for UFC 207, which takes place on December 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MMA insider @TalkMMA informed his followers that he has heard rumors of the UFC being in talks of putting the women’s title fight together.

UFC President Dana White recently spoke with Brazilian media outlet Combate and added confirmation that the UFC is looking at the potential bout between Nunes and Rousey.

White was asked by Combate if there is a chance that Rousey will be facing another Brazilian before a superfight with Cris Cyborg. White responded, saying that there is a good chance that Rousey will be fighting Nunes and that he is very confident that the fight will take place before the end of the year, which makes perfect sense for UFC 207 being in December.
