Holly Holm hits back at Ronda Rousey’s ‘clean her clock’ comments about potential MMA rematch

Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm responded to her former rival, Ronda Rousey’s recent comments about a rematch.

UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey’s highly anticipated return to Mixed Martial Arts lasted just 17 seconds last month, as she submitted Gina Carano with her patented armbar. Rousey hadn’t fought since back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes to end her UFC tenure.

After her win over Carano, Rousey has entertained the possibility of running it back with Holm in the Most Valuable Promotions cage, despite her claiming she’s done competing in MMA. She promised to ‘clean Holly Holm’s clock’ in a potential rematch, despite a lopsided defeat in their first fight.

Holm, who recently suffered a controversial boxing world title loss, didn’t take long to respond to Rousey’s remarks.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Holm was asked about Rousey’s prediction about how a rematch would play out.

“You can say one thing, and actions are another,” Holm said of Rousey.

“She’s always going to be more of that type of person, and the thing is, I’ve always said that I would rematch her. That’s the bottom line. She doesn’t want it! She’s never wanted it, and that’s alright. I’m not mad at her for it. I don’t want someone to get in there and fight if they don’t actually want to fight, because I want someone who wants it.

“The rematch has never been because I said ‘No’. I have respect for her, and she was a dominant champion; she’s good at what she does,” Holm continued. “She just has holes in [striking], but she’s very good at her skill set.”

Holm hasn’t fought in MMA since a second-round submission loss to Kayla Harrison at UFC 300. Her last MMA win came against Yana Santos in March 2023.
